IMPORTANT MESSAGE ON TRAFFIC SAFETY
With the start of the new year, I thought it would be a good time to review the Drop Off/Pick Up Information that was distributed at the start of the school year, as well as a few additional safety tips. A copy of the original information is available by clicking the link below.
Now that we have almost completed our first semester in our new location there are some student safety issues that I would like to bring to your attention:
- Parents who are dropping student off for breakfast and Beyond the Bell are strongly encouraged to head north on Jones Street and drop students off by the building entrance.
- Do not drop off students on the west side of Jones Street as this causes a safety issue when students cross mid-block into oncoming traffic.
- When picking up students at the end of the school day, please use the designated cross-walk areas.
- Please remember that the lower parking lot area is to be used for dropping off and picking up students in vehicles.
- At the end of the day, the Jones Street entrance doors are for walkers only.
Thank you in advance for your support in ensuring student safety at Bryant School!

We will be using online Parent sign up through www.myconferencetime.com/bryant . Parent access begins on Friday, January 17 and ends on Sunday, February 16. Remember, once sign up begins the slots fill up quickly, so sign up early.
Why use an online system?
· It gives Parents flexibility and control of their conference time
· One location for parents, teachers, and staff to schedule conferences
As a parent what do I do?
I have only one student to schedule:
· Go to the internet and type in www.myconferencetime.com/bryant
· You should see 2 columns with teacher names.
· If you have only 1 child, click on the name of your child’s teacher
· After you click on the teacher’s name, the schedules appear. Choose an open slot, click the red “Sign Up”
· Fill in your child’s first and last name, your first and last name, and a valid email address
· At the bottom click “Sign Up for Your Conference”
I have more than one student to schedule:
• Go to the internet and type in www.myconferencetime.com/bryant
• You should see 2 columns with the teachers names.
• If you are registering more than 1 child, at the top of the screen is a yellow box that says “Register for Multiple Conferences” Click here
• In the drop down, choose how many children you need conference times for. Click continue
• Fill in your child’s first and last name, your first and last name, and a valid email address. Click Continue.
• Fill in the information needed for the other students needing a conference
• Select all teachers your children have, click “Find Schedules with Common Dates” at the bottom
• Choose which day you wish to have a conference. The teachers’ schedules appear side by side. The teacher name is at the top of the column. Please make sure you put the correct child with the correct teacher. The names of your children appear next to a check box for each available time slot. Choose the time for each student by clicking the box next to their name in the time you wish to reserve. Please make sure that you select different times for each student.
• If you do not find times you want for the day you chose, Click back on your browser and choose a different day.
If you need assistance setting up a conference, do not hesitate to contact the Bryant office at 279-6819. We will be happy to assist you.
THIRD GRADE NEWS
Happy Holidays from the third grade team! A lot of exciting learning has been happening in our classrooms over the past few months and there is lots to look forward to in the New Year.
We most recently concluded a social studies unit about the first Thanksgiving where students learned about the pilgrim journey to America and the establishment of Plymouth. We wrapped up the unit by welcoming the parents into our classrooms for a Thanksgiving scavenger hunt, followed by our annual Thanksgiving feast later that week. We were so happy to share this tradition with our Bryant students. Thank you for your support.
In math, we have begun mastering our basic multiplication facts and strategies to solve multiplication problems. Students recently tackled the Distributive Property of Multiplication! We encourage you to continue working at home with your child to help them become fluent on the basic facts (addition, subtraction, and multiplication). In January, we will dive into division. Students will also be taking the FAST-CAP Math assessment at the end of January. Scores will be shared at conferences in February.
In reading, we continue to work on our Must do/May do Menus weekly and meet with our skills-based, small groups. The students have been working on making inferences, identifying the meaning of unknown words or phrases, and improving their fluency.
Building-wide, we continue to work on fluency to prepare for the FAST CBM assessment in January. The third grade goal is to be proficiently reading 110 words per minute with no errors. Thank you for encouraging your children to read at home. Dream big, work hard! At Bryant, anything is “PAW”sible!
From your third grade teachers, we wish you a very Happy New Year!

Frostbite—A Winter Weather Hazard
Frostbite is a condition in which skin or part of the body becomes partially frozen due to exposure to cold. Body parts most likely to be frostbitten are the fingers, toes, ears, nose and cheeks. In the beginning stages of frostbite, the skin will become very red and then pale.
DO:
· Do bring the child indoors.
· Do warm the area in a pan of lukewarm water.
· If hands or feet are affected, elevate them above the heart level.
DO NOT:
· Do not rub or massage the area.
· Do not warm with a heating pad.
· Do not break blisters that have formed.
CALL YOUR DOCTOR IF:
· The skin blisters.
· The area feels numb after 15 minutes of warming.
· The skin is cold, white, hard and waxy feeling. This usually means the frostbite is severe.
PREVENTION:
· Protect children from cold, wind and moisture.
· Dress them in proper clothing:
- Dress your child in several layers of light, loose clothing rather than one heavy garment.
- Protect the child’s head and neck with a hat and scarf and his/her face with a mask.
- For outdoor play, boots high enough to cover the ankles, two pairs of socks and mittens or gloves should be worn.
