NEW!!! 2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR GRADE LEVEL REMIND CODES
New families may have read the title and thought, "What's Remind? Why do I need it? Heck, some seasoned families may be thinking the same thing. Remind is the tool your child's teacher may use to communicate with you. These communications will be specific to your child's class and will keep you in contact with your child's teacher. Depending on your preferences, you may receive Remind messages via text or email. Again, Remind serves as a way for you to directly communicate with your child's classroom teacher.
OK, so here's the plot twist... you ready? Principal Cook-Frazier may also use Remind at the grade level for essential and/or emergency communication. For example, imagine that 3rd grade students are on a field trip and the bus can't get them back to Kilgour when planned for dismissal. Rather than each teacher contacting parents, Principal Cook-Frazier would use the 3rd grade level Remind to inform all parents of the situation and the expected arrival time. (Remember, that was just an example!) No 3rd graders are on a field trip and they will all be dismissed on time today!
Hopefully you've got it. If not, please feel free to contact me, RC1 using one of the contacts below and I will be happy to talk you through the communication plans.

BE SURE TO CREATE A FOCUS ACCOUNT FOR YOUR STUDENTS
Stay tuned in to your students progress this year and get emails from Principal Cook-Frazier by creating an account and using the FOCUS Parent Portal.
The FOCUS Parent Portal allows families to view student grades, attendance and other information. It is also what Principal Cook-Frazier will use to send school-wide emails and announcements. You can access the Parent Portal by going to https://www.cps-k12.org/parentportal.
Creating an account requires your child's Student ID number. If your student isn't new to the district, you can find this information on a recent report card print out or via Power School using the browser version. This information isn't available in the mobile app.
- Access via browser https://powerschool.cps-k12.org/public/home.html
- Sign in using your credentials
- Across the top you'll find your students name followed by 'PowerSchool ID' (this is their Student ID needed to create a FOCUS account.
Families of students new to CPS, including new kindergarteners, will need to contact the main office at 513.363.300 to ask for your child's Student ID number. This also works for parents that may have tossed those old report cards and cannot recall your PowerSchool credentials.
Still need help or unable to complete the above steps, please contact CPS Customer Care Center at 513.363.0123 or CPSHelp@cpsboe.k12.oh.us. The Customer Care Center accepts calls from 8:15am - 4:30pm during normal operating days.
I HAVE A FOCUS ACCOUNT... NOW WHAT?
Inserting a round of applause πππ! Congratulations and welcome to the "I may stalk my child's grades" club. Emphasis on may. Don't worry about the stalking part. As far as I'm concerned, it IS our absolute right!
In addition to monitoring grades, absences and messaging teachers please make sure you check Preferences > Notifications to be sure you're subscribed to receive emails. If not, you will miss any updates from Principal Cook-Frazier sent from FOCUS. Please see the image below for a visual on what you should see to verify email receipt.
Note: If there isn't an 'Unsubscribe' link under your email address and the 'Frequency' is set to 'Never' you have opted out of receiving emails. Simply choose an option other than 'Never' from the 'Frequency' dropdown and save to update your choice.
LET'S GET INTO SOME SAFETY AND POLICY THINGS
FROM THE DESK OF OUR AP, SHELLEY STEIN:
As a former parent I understand that they sometimes stuff their bags or pockets with unauthorized for school items. This is not a request to pat them down before they get out of the car. Just a conversation about how it can make others feel who don't have what they have, so it's best to keep their personal things at home for after school and weekend play.
Thank you for helping your students understand this important part of the Kilgour community.
PLEASE BE COURTEOUS TO OUR NEIGHBORS WHEN PARKING
The safety of all in the Kilgour community is of upmost importance to us. We ask that everyone be mindful of the designated parking and no parking areas to ensure safety and a harmonious relationship with our neighbors living closest to our school.
Fun Fact: The MLCC was able to successfully advocate with the city to have a crosswalk added across Principio at the intersection highlighted in yellow in the picture below. Be sure to thank an MLCC council member when you see them!
The area in red is the No Parking area that should be avoided when visiting Kilgour School. Again, this keeps everyone safe in our community. (Picture courtesy of MLCC President, Mike Cheetham)
