WBSD Weekly Update
June 26, 2024
WBSD will be closed on Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5. Have a safe and fun holiday weekend!
Please note the district weekly newsletter will switch to a bi-weekly distribution routine during summer break. The temporary shift of distribution will begin the week of June 24 and will remain in place until Aug. 12.
Laker of the Month
We are pleased to announce the Laker of the Month is Michelle Walker, one of our dedicated Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP) Lead Teachers. Michelle was nominated by Mary Jane Steffes, who has witnessed firsthand Michelle's unwavering commitment and exceptional leadership.
Michelle's dedication goes far beyond her regular duties. She is always accessible to families, offering support, answering questions, and providing updates on their children's progress. Michelle's commitment is evident in her early arrivals and late evenings spent lesson planning, always aiming to create engaging and effective small and large group activities that adhere to the high-scope curriculum.
Michelle truly embodies our school's mission statement, which is to support each student's needs by providing opportunities, experiences, and educational tools for their journey. She ensures that children of all backgrounds or cultures feel safe and supported.
Free IXL for WBSD Students
Attention K-5 Families
IXL offers individualized and unlimited practice for Math (K-5), aligned with our curriculum. I am thrilled to remind you that IXL is available for free from home over the summer for WBSD students.
This summer, we challenge you to have your child use IXL for at least 30 minutes daily. Each skill takes about 15 minutes, so completing two skills a day can lead to significant growth! My own children will be doing this over the summer as well. Of course, we want kids to relax, play outside, and spend time with family and friends as well, but dedicating a small portion of the day to academics will have an impact on their academic progress.
Your child’s Spring NWEA Math score has been uploaded to IXL, creating a personalized study plan tailored to their needs. To access IXL:
Visit IXL Sign-in
Click "Sign in with Clever"
Select "Log in with Google"
Use the student’s WBSD Google email account
If you have trouble accessing your child's school email account, please email katherine.law@wbsd.org. You can view this slide deck if you would like to view step-by-step instructions for accessing your child’s personalized study plan in IXL.
Also, please ensure your child reads for 20 minutes a day, independently, with a buddy, or with a parent/family member.
In partnership,
Dania H. Bazzi, PhD
Superintendent
