Weekly Regulation Practice - Finger Tapping and Breathing
With both hands at the same time, begin with your thumb and first finger (pointer finger) and tap fingers from the first finger to pinky as you tap all four fingers, you take a long inhale and as you tap back to the thumb and first finger, take a long exhale. Repeat the tapping and breathing for one minute. This breathing exercise is a great strategy to use if you are overwhelmed at your desk during class.
All of the regulation strategies we’ve been practicing this year can be found on our school website.
High School Course Selection
On Wednesday, April 2nd teams from both Salisbury Composite and Bev Facey High School will be meeting with our grade 9s at 10:30am to help them select courses for their grade 10 year.
STEAM Night
We are looking for community members with backgrounds in engineering, art, or math to run an engaging station for students! This could be a hands-on activity, demonstration, or interactive exhibit that sparks curiosity and excitement.
For example, we already have some fantastic organizations confirmed, including the Edmonton Geological Society (geology & rock science), Strathcona County Utilities Outreach (recycling & seed planting), Steamoji (makerspace activities), Strathcona County Robotics, Callysto (data science), and the Strathcona County Library (STEAM resources).

Pass the Mic: Let's Talk About Racism
Lakeland Ridge has been working with the Canadian Museum of Human Rights (CMHR) to support teaching and learning about racism. In January Sarah Adomako-Ansah from CMHR presented to all staff about resources, lessons and tools for guiding safe and meaningful dialogue around racism. Students in Grades 6-9 will be engaging in conversations about racism, microagressions and anti-racism during health classes. Below is a link to the Pass the Mic: Let's Talk About Racism.
Lakeland Ridge Choir
This extra-curricular club will meet in the music room from March 5 until April 17. Students will eat in the music room together and sing during the lunch recess. They will learn a variety of songs and vocal warm-ups.
Students can come to the music room on March 5th if they are interested in joining. A letter will be sent home with a permission form on that day.
