Weekly Tips for Parents
Provide the support that helps teens stay in school
To be ready for college or a career, your teen must stay in school. To encourage this, talk frequently about how much you appreciate your own education, or why you wish you'd gotten more. Make sure your teen has access to study materials at home or at the library, and support efforts to complete schoolwork. Focus on your teen's strengths, rather than weaknesses. And express confidence in your student's abilities to learn.

Respond productively to a poor report card
It's natural to feel upset if your teen brings home a disappointing report card. But showing frustration and anger isn't productive. Instead, start by talking about what your teen has done well. Next, ask what your student thinks the problem is behind the low grades. Is it poor study habits? An overloaded schedule? If needed, contact the teachers for their views. Then together, set realistic goals for improvement.

Let experience teach responsibility lessons
Your teen forgot an assignment and wants you to drive it to school. Or, your teen hasn't completed an English paper and wants your permission to skip a class to finish it. Sound familiar? Fixing students' problems for them now only creates bigger problems in the future. To help instill responsibility, let your teen face the consequences of personal actions and learn from experience.

💊 Prescription Drug Drop-off 💊
“Big White Box”
Accessible to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the Lilburn Police Department lobby located at 4600 Lawrenceville Highway, Lilburn, GA 30047.
Prescription drug abuse among all age groups is a real and growing danger across the country. In addition, unsafe disposal of Rx and over-the-counter (OTC) medications is costly to our environment and, therefore, to our health. The “Big White Box” helps keep these drugs out of the hands of children and teens, off the street, prevent overdoses and accidental poisonings, and avoid environmental contamination caused by throwing drugs in the toilet, sink, or trash.
