Civics Project Showcase
When: Monday, May 20 from 3 - 4:30 pm
Where: RCMS Cafeteria
Who’s invited?: All RCMS Families, students, alumni, and community members!
Please join us on Monday, May 20 from 3:00 - 4:30 pm in the RCMS Cafeteria for our second annual RCMS Civics Project Showcase! Eighth grade students enrolled in Civics will present their Student-Led Civics Projects to the community through a “science-fair”-style presentation. The Student-Led Civics Project is the “capstone” experience to our 8th grade Civics curriculum, in which students apply the civics skills and knowledge they have gained during the year to identify an issue in their school, town, state, or national community which concerns them, and through research, propose solutions to solve the problem. You can expect to see some of the following topics represented at this year’s showcase:
Lack of youth sports in Randolph
Consumerism and overconsumption
The impact of borderline personality disorder on personal relationships
Improving RCMS fields
Immigration and Barriers
Education on child abductions
Autism awareness in the classroom
Teen depression and suicide
Bullying at RCMS
We look forward to seeing you there!
🎶🎶🎶Music News🎶🎶🎶
- RCMS End-of-Year Concert is May 22nd. Exact call times will be sent home closer to the event. Dress code for the concert will be white tops and black bottoms. No jeans and sneakers, please.
- All Band Concert is Tuesday, June 4th here at the RCMS Gymnasium. A rehearsal for all performers will be held at 4:00 prior to the concert's start at 6:30. Dress code for that performance will be black bottoms (pants, shorts, skirt) and RPS music t-shirt that will be provided to all students on June 4th.
- The RPS summer Music Program will be held here at RCMS from June 17th to June 27th. An information letter has been sent home with families but another is attached below. Please register by June 10th to reserve placement. There are scholarships available through our booster program - Applications are due in by May 10th.
Music Trio Contest
Three 6th graders, Stanley Jacques, Cedric Anicet, and Daniel Fonseca, won the trio contest in band class and we thought you might enjoy hearing an excerpt.
Student Conductors
Fridays in the 6th grade band class are known as Forte Fun Fridays. On these Friday rehearsals we often employ non-traditional rehearsal techniques to change how we listen or how we approach our concert program. In an effort to show students how much each musician really contributes to the performance, all student's names were put into a hat. If selected, the students would have to run the rehearsal for five minutes. They were responsible for warming up, tuning, and rehearsing their peers. Through this exercise, students displayed an understanding of the routines that maximize rehearsal time, as well as the techniques and principles of ensemble playing that make a great concert happen.
BAA Relay Challenge
The RCMS track team finished in 4th place at the BAA Relay Challenge in Boston on April 14. Congrats to the runners and coaches!

OpenSciEd Winners: Student Industry Connect program
Industry professionals have selected Kayden Cabral, Evan Vu, and Riley Durham as OpenSciEd winners for the exceptional project they submitted to the One8 Applied Learning Hub’s Student Industry Connect program!
Here’s what one volunteer said: “All three of your design features are very clearly described, including the role each feature plays in maintaining the temperature of the drink inside. I also really like the way you balanced the performance of the material with the cost, as illustrated by your choice to use an air-insulated double walled construction instead of a higher cost vacuum insulation approach.”
In recognition of their achievement, they received a printed certificate, rocketbooks, and a banner to display their much deserved bragging rights in Ms. Odom's classroom.
One8 was thrilled to recognize these students for this achievement and RCMS is so proud of them!
Congratulations Kayden, Evan, Riley and Ms. Odom!
Medical Detectives
In Mrs. Cardillo's PLTW Medical Detectives Class, Activity 2.5 lesson introduces student to the human body as a collection of systems. Students perform a sheep brain dissection to use their knowledge to explore, analyze evidence, to identify the cause of Central Nervous System (CNS) and Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) dysfunction. For example students identified tumors or other neurological disorders inside the brain by justification of evidence to correlate with a patient case for real world experience. Students created educational resources to assist their patient and the community for understanding of the medical condition caused by the dysfunction.
