January 24, 2025
Dear Middlebrook Families,
The colder months are upon us, therefore we kindly remind you to ensure your children come to school dressed warmly with coats, hats, and gloves to keep them healthy and comfortable. Staying cozy helps them stay focused and ready to learn throughout the day.
Our students have been learning about Martin Luther King Jr. and his role in promoting equality and justice during the Civil Rights Movement. Many children learned about his powerful "I Have a Dream" speech and how he used peaceful protests. Through stories and activities, students were inspired by his message of kindness and fairness.
Thank you for your continued support in making this a great year for your children!

OLSAT testing grades 3 and 5
Students in grades 3 and 5 will be taking the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) in February. This test is designed to assess a child’s performance across a wide variety of reasoning skillsets. As always, it is important for your children to be prepared and ready for learning each day so they can put forth their best effort. Healthy habits of eating, sleeping and getting plenty of rest allow ALL of us to perform at our highest level.
Student Spotlight
Spelling Bee
On Wednesday evening, 9 students from Middlebrook gathered in the gym for our first annual Scripps Spelling Bee. Over the last several months students diligently spent time studying words and attending practices. Everyone at school is incredibly proud of their graciousness, diligence and growth mindset. Congratulations to Sai Gugulapally for his first place accomplishment. He will now go on to represent our school at the next competition.
Science in Motion
Students in 3rd grade used scientific inquiry to investigate whether or not inertia (an objects resistance to a change in motion) affect the motion of an object. Students kept in mind that objects in motion or at rest will stay in motion or at rest unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. First, the students constructed ramps and released a matchbox car with a washer on top to see if both objects would stay in motion. After that, they put a barrier at the end of the ramp to see if both the car and the washer would stop. Students will continue their inquiries into how forces affects the motion of objects.
Grade 1 and Martin Luther King JR
Students all over the school learned about Martin Luther King JR. Our grade 1 children used Scholastic News magazine to read and investigate about his life's accomplishments.
Staff Spotlight
Mr. Keith- School Security
It is a privilege to come to work every day in such a positive environment. The students make every day a good day with the respect and behavior they show for one another, not to mention the high fives, waves, and smiles I get.
After more than 34 years as a police officer here in Trumbull, this is one of the most satisfying chapters in my career.
