The Class of 2024 National Banner Unified Champion Schools

Special Olympics Unified Champion School

Congratulations to our schools named to the Class of 2024 National Banner Unified Champion Schools! A Special Olympics Unified Champion School has an inclusive school climate and exudes a sense of collaboration, engagement, and respect for all members of the student body and staff. A Unified Champion School receiving national banner recognition is one that has demonstrated commitment to inclusion by meeting ten national standards of excellence. The Class of 2024 includes Millard North High School, Millard West High School, Millard North Middle School, Millard Central Middle School, Beadle Middle School, and Cody Elementary School!

Bond Exploration

The district continues to explore the feasibility of a 2025 bond to improve safety, security, and maintenance needs for all 35 schools. The Board received a presentation on a draft bond proposal that would not increase in the tax rate. The district has maintained a regular bond cycle which has allowed the district to update aging facilities efficiently without increasing the tax rate. The Board will continue their discussions at the November meetings.

Staff Highlights

Congratulations to our staff doing amazing things!

Former Millard South Basketball Player Dale Ribble has been inducted into the 2024 Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame. A complete basketball player who could pass, shoot, and defend, Ribble earned all-state honors while leading Millard South to back-to-back Class A state championships.
Retired Millard North Football Coach Fred Petito has also been inducted into the 2024 Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame. During the longest head coaching tenure in Class A football, 41 years, Petito produced five state championship teams and the most recent Heisman Trophy winner from the state. He retired with a career record of 285-167.
The Millard North Girls Gymnastics Team and Coach Bridget Kowal received the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame's Dominant Dynasties Award for their many years of state championships 1987-1999!
Millard School Psychologist Josie Schnakenberg has been named the 2024 Outstanding School Psychology Graduate Student by the Nebraska School Psychologists Association.
