Principal's Message - Mr. Stoney
Dear Mary M. Knight Families,
As we approach the exciting Homecoming week, I'm thrilled to share the fantastic events and achievements happening at Mary M. Knight!
First, let's talk about our upcoming Spirit Week! Starting Monday, 9/30, we're kicking off each day with a fun theme:
- Monday: Pajama Day
- Tuesday: Fraternity / Sorority Day
- Wednesday: Old Cartoon Character Day
- Thursday: Senior Citizen Day
- Friday: Neon 80s Day
This week culminates in our Homecoming festivities, including our football game against Evergreen Lutheran on Saturday at 1:00 PM, followed by the much-anticipated Homecoming dance at 8:00 PM. Speaking of the dance, our "Neon Nights" theme promises to light up the night for our 8th-12th graders! Remember, tickets are on sale in the high school office starting Monday, and they must be purchased by Friday at 3:30 PM – no tickets will be sold at the door. If you're bringing a guest from another school, don't forget to pick up a guest form from Mrs. Beste.
I'm proud to announce our GRIT award winners for the week of 9/23/24:
- Elementary: Tristan Persell, Lewis Baughman, Luca Thomas, Grace Johnson, Meika Garcia, Keith Johnson, and David Finch
- Secondary: Katelynn Blanchard, Chase Tupper, Layla Thomas, Tylee Bowcutt, and Aubrey Lake
Congratulations to these students for exemplifying Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity!
I'd also like to recognize our staff GRIT award winners: Mr. Johannes, Mrs. Dodge, Mrs. Jewett, and Mrs. Ehler. Their dedication and resilience continue to inspire our entire school community.
For those who missed our fall pictures, mark your calendars for retakes on Monday, October 14th.

Elementary September Awards Assembly
Dear Families,
What a fantastic End of the Month Awards Assembly we had last week! It's always a joy to celebrate the hard work and achievements of our amazing OWLS, and September was truly exceptional.
We're thrilled to recognize the following students who have shown outstanding progress and exemplary character:

These students truly embody the spirit of our school values.
Additionally, we're proud to recognize Jacee House as our Character Strong Award recipient for Respect. Jacee's actions have set a wonderful example for her peers.
To all our award winners, congratulations! Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and we're incredibly proud of each one of you.
Parents and guardians, thank you for your continued support in nurturing these bright young minds. Together, we're helping our OWLS soar to new heights!

Spirit Week
Next week, we will be recognizing Homecoming week with an all district spirit week. Students will dress up based on the theme for each day. This week will culminate with an a district Homecoming PEP assembly on Friday along with a football game versus Evergreen Lutheran on Saturday and Homecoming dance. Neon Nights: Homecoming is Almost Here! - Homecoming Dance
Get ready, because Neon Nights is just one week away! Our 8th-12th graders will light up the dance floor on Saturday, October 5th, from 8-11 PM.
Tickets go on sale starting Monday in the high school office—one per person. No tickets will be sold at the door, so be sure to purchase yours by Friday, 3:30 PM! Got a guest from another school? Swing by and see Mrs. Beste for a guest form (needs signatures from the guest and their school admin). Guest forms are also due by 3:30 PM on Friday, so don’t be late if you want to bring a date!
Next week during lunch, song request sheets will be available so you can make sure your favorite jam is in the mix—whether you’re groovin’ or cuddlin’ with your sweetie.
Reminder: It’s still school, just with better lighting! All school rules apply, so keep it fun and safe.

----GRIT and Positive Referrals----
Weekly above the line students
Positive Referrals - These are referrals that any staff member can fill out on a student who they feel are consistently demonstrating actions or behaviors related to our OWLS behavior expectations of Ownership, Willingness, Leadership, and Success. When a student received a positive referral, they are give a certificate, contacted home on what they did to earn it, and are posted in the school.
GRIT Awards - In the 2024-25 academic year, we're all about embracing 'Nurturing Resilience, Inspiring Excellence' as our guiding principle. We believe that having GRIT – Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity – is key to creating a culture where challenges are seen as stepping stones to greatness. We want to foster a growth mindset in our students and ourselves, understanding that hard work and dedication can help us develop our abilities and intelligence. Student will be nominated weekly if they are demonstrating characteristics of GRIT. Student will receive a certificate and shared out.
Staff Grit of the Week
This week, our staff recognizes four staff for their continued GRIT to support our OWLS. We recognize Mr. Johannes, Mrs. Dodge, Mrs. Jewett, and for their continued resilience and fortitude and commitment to our OWLS and Mary M. Knight.
Mr. Johannes
For his commitment and GRIT to work with Ms. Fisher with all the schedule changes for our high school student making sure they get what they need to be successful.
Mrs. Dodge
For her GRIT and fortitude coming in as the Kindergarten leave replacement and taking on challenges with a positive mindset.
Mrs. Jewett
For her GRIT to support another staff member and helping out whenever she needs to to help the team and school be successful.
Mrs. Ehler
for her GRIT and commitment to work with students and staff to help make sure of our students are complete their Fall MAPS assessment for the school year.
