DISTRICT SPOTLIGHT
Celina High School is participating in the Each Child on Track project for Cohort 3. This project utilizes an Early Warning Indicator Tool the SST developed. The district uses the tool to collect Attendance, Behavior, and Course Performance data for students in grades 9-12. This tool allows the district to identify students who are off-track for graduation and assign interventions to those students. Each quarter, teams review the data to determine the interventions' effectiveness and the system's overall health. Some of the interventions that have been put in place have been Check and Connect for the few students who have flagged in each of the three indicators, a team-based intervention that aligns with components of Check and Connect, and creating the position of a Student Success Coordinator to support students with disabilities who are off track in grades 6-8. While Celina is new to the project, they lead the region in developing systems and structures to support graduation and reduce dropout.
REGION SPOTLIGHT
The Literacy Team at SST6 hosts a Literacy Leader network throughout Region 6. Participants have met twice for the 2024-2025 school year. This time is devoted to taking the time to intentionally dive into anchor documents from the state including Ohio’s Plan for Literacy Achievement, Grade Band Specific Implementation Guides, as well as policy guidance documents. The SST chooses a topic to facilitate a collaborative conversation that includes a problem of practice. Ultimately, the time in the network is used to provide time and space for leaders to leverage each other's expertise.
Here are some first-hand accounts from regular attendees:
“I attend the K-12 Literacy Network to stay updated on best practices in literacy and state requirements as well as to network with other leaders. Each time I have attended, I have walked away with practical strategies and ideas to take directly back to my district to continue refining our literacy practices.”
~Tiffini Flugga, Allen East Elementary School Principal
“I joined the K-12 Literacy Leader Network to learn more about effective literacy practices, collaborate with other educators, and stay updated on new research. I hope to improve literacy instruction, share ideas, and contribute to better outcomes for students.”
~Kori Bernal, Bluffton Elementary School Principal
“I appreciate being a part of the SST6 Literacy Leader Network because the sessions help refocus me on the literacy goals and work that needs to be done at my school. I am able to network with other school leaders, and the sessions have allowed me to go deeper into the Ohio Literacy Laws, which I never seem to take time to do on my own.”
~Abby Scheidt,Fort Recovery Local Schools K-12 Reading Specialist
We welcome all school leaders, including building principals, literacy coaches, teacher leaders, and curriculum personnel, to become part of this valuable community. The next session is scheduled for January 16, 2025 from 9:00AM-11:00AM. This is a virtual meeting. Please see the linked flyer to register.
