Principal's Message
Dear Viking Families,
Thank you for your continued support in using our Viking drop-off zone. We appreciate your efforts to ensure a smooth start to the school day. As a reminder, school begins at 7:40 AM. Arriving just before this time helps minimize traffic congestion compared to arriving at or after 7:40 AM. After 7:40 AM traffic is much more and pedestrian traffic also increases. We also see a much larger trend of students being late on Mondays. Let’s see if we can change that trend, set alarm clock 5 minutes early to be on time.
This week, we also found success with parents turning left off Western Hill into the parking lot. Thank you for your cooperation! Please remember to prioritize safety by watching for pedestrians and following all traffic laws, as our top priority is the safety of all students and adults.
Big thank you for ALL parents who filled out our LCFF forms. We had 100% of families complete this and this may possibly help us get additional funding for the school next year. This week we will be sending home the Federal Survey Cards on paper to be completed. Please complete them and return if you have not yet done so online.
We will soon be holding elections for our ELAC (English Language Advisory Committee) for a two-year term, 2024-2025 and 2025-2026. This is a great opportunity to share your interest and to join in and be a part of the decision making that happens at Ericson. What is ELAC? The purpose of the ELAC is to advise the principal, school staff, and SSC on programs and services for English Learners. Interested? Please fill out ELAC Interest Form: https://forms.gle/s1knp1kmnRRXZRLS7

A special thanks to our foundation for an amazing kickoff to fall with our Fall Festival. As we enter Spirit Week, here’s a quick rundown of the themes:
- Monday: Crazy Sock Day
- Tuesday: Twinning Day
- Wednesday: Halloween Colors or Shirts
- Thursday: Costume Day
- Friday: Spirit Day
For Halloween, students who would like to they may wear an orange shirt or a costume. Please ensure that costumes are school-appropriate, non-scary, and free of weapons or inappropriate items. Remember, we have students from UTK through fifth grade.
We look forward to a fun-filled week! Please ensure your children get plenty of rest on Halloween night and avoid sending them to school with candy.
With Warm Regards,
Mrs. Ashton and Ms. Luong

Mr. Barham and Ms. Vaughan combined their classes for Literature Circles. Students had the opportunity to work with peers in other grade levels and learn from each other during this time.
First and second grade students now have basketball hoops for recess. Thank you to our volunteers for putting together the basketball hoops.
Counselor's Update
Hello Ericson Families,
This week at Ericson our brilliant students worked hard during their lessons with Mr. Z. Kindergarten students met three special friends; passive penguin, assertive Mr. Snail and aggressive alligator. They learned all about different ways to behave and how to be assertive at school. 1st graders learned how to play fair and what it means to share, trade or take turns. 2nd grade students practiced being compassionate and read "What if Everyone did that?". 3rd graders learned all about how to understand different perspectives. 4th grade discussed what gossip is and how to avoid drama and rumors. 5th graders did excellent work diving into respecting similarities & differences. Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mr. Z
