Hi Families,
We had a great week! 95% of the 10th and 11th grade students showed up on Wednesday to take the PSATs. The Freshman had a great Freshman field day and the Seniors engaged in various PE activities. As we enter into the last few weeks of MP 1, (November 12th end MP1)be sure to continue to check Parent Portal and work with your child to assure they are caught up on all material.
November 5th is a Virtual Learning Day! Here is the schedule for the district. If your child attends Vocational school they need to get a ride to High School East and will be bussed to and from High School East to Vocational. Any questions, reach out to the Main Office 732-505-5665.
Did you know, the top Halloween costumes for 2024 are...
1. Bob from Beetlejuice ( shrunken-headed ghost)
2. Viral break-dancer Raygun from the Olympics ( green track suit with hat)
3. Cat-nap: the cat-like monster from the popular video game "Poppy Playtime"
Excited to see all the Halloween costumes this week, Wednesday when we will allow all school appropriate costumes!
Thanks
Erin
Lighthouse Team
This week our Lighthouse Team met with faculty to share November’s Habit and Character trait: Habit 3: Put 1st things 1st and Gratitude. Lighthouse members Mia Giannetti and Bryan Manzo made a video explaining the activity that students will partake in during the activity period next week. Habit 3 of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens is all about prioritizing. By putting 1st things 1st, teens are encouraged to “eliminate the unimportant” and focus on what really matters. . Habit 3 teaches meaningful strategies to prioritize and it teaches teens that time management-driven by purpose, values, roles and priorities- is key to a worthwhile, balanced life. Gratitude, a feeling of thankfulness and appreciation for things in life, has many proven health benefits on wellbeing. Students will be encouraged to recognize all of the non-essentials that they are fortunate to possess, and practice the art of gratitude during this month’s activity period.

10th Grade Physical Education Classes
Toms River Regional Schools will conduct teen Mental Health First Aid (tMHFA) training for students in grade 10 beginning on November 19, 2024 through January 17, 2025. This is an evidence-based training that teaches teens how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in their friends and peers. The training will be conducted by RWJ Barnabas, which gives teens the skills they need to have supportive conversations with their friends and emphasizes the importance of getting help from a responsible and trusted adult. If you have any questions about tMHFA or concerns about your teen’s participation in the training, please attend the virtual parent/guardian meeting on November 4th at 6:00 pm.

Curriculum Corner with Mrs. Lucey
Whether working on IXL or reading a book, Friday’s in Language Arts bring out the opportunity for students to look, collaborate and listen. Whether it’s reading their book of choice or listening to a recording and reading along to a whole class text students enjoy the immersion in stories that bring them on explorations. Even students in Mrs. Santonastaso and Mrs. Gallo’s class celebrated their IXL success diving deeper into the connection between punctuation and meaning.
Students in Mrs. Arminio’s class were introduced to different "first chapters" of teacher-selected novels from all different genres and cultures. Each week, students read/listen to a "first chapter" and reflect in their First Chapter Fridays Journals. Students in Mr. Cicalese’s class are watching the film, The Words, where students practice writing to compare and be concise. They are conducting symbolic analysis and close reading character quotes. Mrs. Florie’s students collaboratively developed a rubric that they will use to assess their upcoming project. Mr. Czech’s students are exploring how language has evolved through history using the Middle English of the Canterbury Tales to explore how it translates into Modern English.
