A Look Into Our Panther Community
Students across all grade levels have been actively collaborating with their peers on various topics and skills in their ELA classes. In Ms. Seeley’s 8th grade class, students are honing their note-taking skills by practicing the Cornell method with their literary nonfiction books. Meanwhile, Mrs. Kalisz’s 6th graders worked together to discuss the pros and cons of participating in book clubs.
Positive Office Referrals
Below are students who have received Positive Office Referrals for their behaviors that have exemplified our PBIS pillars of Respect, Responsibility, Compassion and Pride. Students were able to choose a reward from our menu of options like eating outside with friends or prizes that we have. Great job!
8th Graders
Julian Gouthro & Brooke Bellemare
Sixth grade students began their unit on dividing fractions. The first three lessons in this unit focus on helping students understand division situations. In the opening lesson, students start exploring the relationships between the numbers in a division equation. They learn that by comparing the sizes of the divisor and the dividend, they can estimate the size of the quotient.
Thank you to Mr. Shilansky and Mrs. LaBrec as students performed at our Winter concert. Thank you to all the families that came out to see the show!
Today our student council officers participated in the Middle Level Leadership Conference at Southern Connecticut State University. This event offers young leaders a unique opportunity to connect with peers from other schools while exploring important topics like collaboration, communication, and problem-solving—essential skills that will further support their growth and success in their roles as student council officers.

8th Grade EHHS Transition Information
With the new year comes time to prepare our 8th graders for their milestone transition to high school. Please see the attached letter, also shared on Parentsquare, that speaks to specifics occurring during February as we begin to prepare our students for their transition to East Hampton High School. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.
8th Grade Capstone - Pop Top Collection
Students can bring them to the commons and put them in their grades' bottle. The grades' bottle with the most pop tabs will get points for their grade! These pop tabs are very useful for Shriners Hospital and Ronald McDonald Charities. With the pop tabs they get melted and traded for a monetary value which is then donated to the hospitals. Students can bring the tabs starting Monday January 12th and the collection will go until Friday January 24th.
Thank you for your support!
Attendance Reminder
Per the East Hampton Board of Education’s Attendance Policy and Connecticut statute, parents and guardians may only approve the first 9 absences of the school year with a parent note. Absences 10 and above can only be excused with further documentation and under specific circumstances.
In addition, if a student has four unexcused absences in one month or 10 unexcused absences in a year they are classified as truant. If a child misses 18 or more days in a school year – excused or unexcused absences – the student is classified as chronically absent.
A phone call is appreciated, but only an email to our attendance inbox or written note can officially excuse absence 1 through 9. Below is our attendance email:
Note: Between the school name and the word Attendance is a underscore ( _ )

School Based Health
Happy New Year! Did you resolve to be more on top of your and your child’s health this year? Here’s an easy solution: Sign your child up for School-Based Health Care. Your child’s school works with Community Health Center, Inc.’s School-Based Health Care program to provide health services to your child during the school day. This means they won’t miss as much class and you don’t need to miss work to support their health care needs. Learn more about the services offered at your child’s school and enroll today at SBHC1.com!
