Do you know the difference between an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) and a Surgical Hospital?
Ambulatory Surgery Centers, also known as ASCs, are healthcare facilities specializing in providing surgical care without the need to stay overnight in the hospital. In fact, a study by Sg2 showed that almost 85% of all healthcare procedures can be done safely on an outpatient basis due to technological advancements. Below are a few of the major differences we think you will find most important.
1. Lower cost
ASCs can be 25-50% less expensive than hospitals. This means lower costs to our medical plan which directly impact premium rates.
2. Higher Quality
What is most important to patients is the fact that the quality of healthcare provided by ASCs is equal to, if not better than, the quality offered at hospitals.
3. Personalized Service
Do you like staying in a hospital? Most people don’t. ASCs are patient centered and physician directed, with a special focus on providing personalized care and convenience unmatched in the traditional hospital setting.
Make sure to ask your doctor the next time you are in need of surgery or a procedure if an ASC location is an option, so that you can make an informed decision.
Local Ambulatory Surgical Center Options:
- Riverview Surgical Center
- Pierce Street Same Day Surgery
- Cj Elmwood Partners LP
Note: All other same day centers in the Siouxland area are actually higher cost surgical "Hospitals."
