The Healthiest State 12th Annual Walk will be held on Wednesday, October 5. The 2022 theme is “Walk More. Connect More.” We know now more than ever how important being both physically active and socially connected is to our physical and mental health. The goal is to participate in 30 minutes of physical activity. Find a walk to join at http://www.iowahealthieststate.com/events/annual-walk/ or check with your building supervisor.

The top five locations with the highest percentage of registered walkers will win a Shiatsu Neck Massager for their break room. Winning locations will be announced on Thursday, 10/6.

Ambulatory Surgery Centers, also known as ASCs, are healthcare facilities specializing in providing surgical care without the need to stay overnight in the hospital. In fact, a study by Sg2 showed that almost 85% of all healthcare procedures can be done safely on an outpatient basis due to technological advancements. Below are a few of the major differences we think you will find most important.

1. Lower cost

ASCs can be 25-50% less expensive than hospitals. This means lower costs to our medical plan which directly impact premium rates.

2. Higher Quality

What is most important to patients is the fact that the quality of healthcare provided by ASCs is equal to, if not better than, the quality offered at hospitals.

3. Personalized Service

Do you like staying in a hospital? Most people don’t. ASCs are patient centered and physician directed, with a special focus on providing personalized care and convenience unmatched in the traditional hospital setting.

Make sure to ask your doctor the next time you are in need of surgery or a procedure if an ASC location is an option, so that you can make an informed decision.

Fun Run/Walk: 1K Youth Run (10:15 AM)
Free entry. Race starts outside the Main Four Seasons Health Club Sign up race day before 9:15 AM. No shirts for this race.

5K: Coca Cola Classic 5K Run (Immediately after)
This 5K race is out and back on the flat Floyd River Trail. Each mile will be marked and water will be available on the trail. On line registration closes on November 2.

10K: Coca Cola Classic 10K Run (Immediately after)
The course is out and back on the flat paved, Floyd River Trail. Each mile will be marked and water is available on the course. On line registration closes on November 2.
