News from Winfield Elementary: March 1, 2024
From the Principals, Mrs. Alonzo & Mrs. Hall
Dear Winfield Families,
Our students in grade 3 will be taking the IREAD-3 assessment next week on March 4th-6th. This is a required assessment for students in grade three in the state of Indiana. In most cases, students need to pass the IREAD-3 assessment in order to move on to fourth grade. There is one opportunity to retake the test following remediation in June.
You can view sample questions and more details about the test at the links below. There are some useful resources to view. I encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions about the test.
From the Indiana Department of Education:
This legislation (IREAD-3) was developed to ensure students can read at grade level prior to fourth grade. Based on the Indiana Academic Standards, IREAD-3 specifically tests foundational reading standards through grade three. The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) created an item sampler with examples of the types of test questions that may appear on IREAD-3. You can download the IREAD-3 Item Sampler by visiting the IDOE website:
Eating a healthy breakfast the morning of a test and getting a good night’s rest the night before are very important to help students perform their best. Winfield must follow important guidelines during this testing window - interruptions to classrooms are prohibited and your child being in school and on time can be a big help in ensuring a smooth testing environment for all! Smartwatches and cell-phones will not be allowed in the classroom – these need to stay at home or in a child’s locker.
Thank you for your support – we appreciate our partnerships with families to help our students. Please call your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
Mrs. Alonzo & Mrs. Hall

Please send an extra change of clothing for your child to keep in their locker. Accidents happen on the playground, at lunch or in the classroom that sometimes requires a change of clothing. I have a very limited amount of clothing to lend out in all sizes, so it is super helpful if your child has something of their own here at school. Thanks!

CPCSC offers a Birth to School Program for children 0-5 years old that reside within the Crown Point Community School Corporation boundaries. We offer a Little Learners series that includes a baby class (0-12 months), toddler class (13-24 months) and little learners class (25-36 months).
