2014-2015 Annual Education Report
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2014-15 educational progress for Goodrich Middle School. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, accountability, and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Ms. Kapeka von Keltz, Principal, for assistance.
Goodrich Middle School utilizes a multitude of data sources to inform our decisions. Some such data sources include student achievement on norm-referenced assessments including M-Step, STAR, and classroom assessments; student demographic information; discipline, tardy, truancy and attendance rates, parent surveys, informal staff surveys and teacher quality information. The data shown in the Combined Report indicates that the gap between economically disadvantaged students and non-economically disadvantaged students is closing. This is due largely in part to targeted interventions and improved tier I teaching.
As we celebrate our successes, we also strive to grow and improve student outcomes in a variety of ways, including:
Assessment tools in reading and in math such as STAR, and other common formative assessments
Ongoing professional development opportunities for all staff, including regular “late start” days which allow staff to collaborate and enhance their skillset
Basing teacher evaluation on overall organizational growth specifically around student learning targets and instructional alignment
- Development of school leadership and parent advisory teams.
State law requires that we also report additional information:
Process for assigning pupils to the school:
Goodrich Area Schools is a free, public school and adheres to all requirements outlined by federal and state laws regarding enrollments.
Goodrich Area Schools does not discriminate in admissions policies or practices on the basis of intellectual or athletic ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, status as a handicapped person, religion, creed, race, sex, color, or national origin.
Goodrich Middle School services all students in grades sixth through eighth that live in the Goodrich School District. The school also accepts school of choice students from other districts to the extent that enrollment capacity allows.
The status of the 3-5 year school improvement plan:
We are continuing to implement the School Improvement Plan by monitoring, revising and updating it based on the needs of our students.
The decision-making process at Goodrich Middle School involves the school improvement team, staff and the Board of Directors. Day-to-day decisions are placed with the faculty, who are empowered to make prudent choices to solve the challenges and problems of students.
In each building, the school improvement team works with vested parties to facilitate effective and ongoing growth and progress. The teams rely on data-driven decision making to identify areas of strength, areas for improvement, and make decisions relative to short and long term goal planning.
A brief description of each specialized school:
Goodrich Middle School does not have a specialized school. Students needing special education services are evaluated and serviced in the general education classroom with support and special education classroom.
How to access a copy of the core curriculum, a description of implementation, and an explanation of the variances from the state’s model:
The core curriculum of Goodrich Middle School does not differ from the State’s model. The Common Core State Standards are the basis for the math and English language arts curriculum used by the staff to teach all of our students in grades sixth through eighth. State standards are utilized in social studies and science, areas not included in the common core. However, it is the expectation that all teachers include literacy components of the common core.
A copy of the core curriculum is located on Michigan Department of Education’s website and can be accessed through the following link:
https://www.michigan.gov/mde/0,4615,7-140-28753_64839_65510---,00.html. Specific grade level curriculum is made available during annual curriculum nights, or from the school office.
The aggregate student achievement results for any local competency tests or nationally normed achievement tests
- Please see our full report at www.goodrichschools.org/GMS
The percent of students represented by parents at parent-teacher conferences:
2015-16: 6th-8th - 43%
2014-15: 6th-8th - 40%
The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting www.goodrichschools.org. or you may review a copy in the main office at your child’s school. Attendance Policy Questions?
After School Pick Up Safety
If you pick your child up at the end of the school day, we need to ask for your help to ensure the safety of ALL Goodrich Middle School children. We've had several "close calls" because of drivers who are in too much of a hurry to follow caravan/pick-up protocol.
Please note that any student being picked up at the end of the day must be picked up at the NORTH END of the building ONLY! DO NOT park in any other area or parking lot to wait for your child to come to you. This includes the visitor's lot, Oaktree's circle drive and the parking lot by the gym. Also, when waiting for your child in the caravan/pick-up line, please wait your turn in line and then pull all the way forward to pick up your child at the building doors to ensure their safety.
To summarize, unless your child(ren) rides the bus, is signed out for early release in the office by an authorized individual or is walking to the high school for sports practice, they should be picked up in the parent pick-up/caravan line at the designated location at the north end of the middle school. Please share this information with anyone who may be picking up your child/children as well.
Thank you in advance for your help to
ensure all of our children are safe!
