The Acorn
Message from Academy of the Canyons' Principal, Dr. Fine
Week of 10/8-10/13
I hope you enjoyed that three day weekend! Welcome back!
We kindly ask for your cooperation in ensuring the safety of all our students during drop-off. Please make sure to slow down, especially after dropping off your student, and use the designated valet line for drop-offs. We have noticed some students running across the parking lot and through traffic, which is extremely dangerous.
Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated as we work together to keep our students and community safe.
Thank you for your support. And have a wonderful week! It's going to be warm again! Please send your students with a refillable water bottle, sunscreen and a hat. They are always welcome indoors during this extreme weather.
Have a wonderful week! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or our main office with any questions.
Sincerely,
Dr. Juliet Fine
Principal of AOC

New After School Arts Enrichment Class-Graphic Design
Hello!
My name is Sam Lindberg and I’ll be the instructor for an after school graphic design workshop. After years of professional experience as a designer, I graduated from CSUN with a BA in Graphic Design. And—as AOC alumni—I’m SO excited to be come back and share my experience.
Graphic design is everywhere and graphic design is for everyone! If you’d like to craft more polished presentations, to understand industry-standard design software, or to design your own merch, then this class is probably for you.
What you’ll learn:
Principles of Design: Typography, composition, color theory, and more. Understand and master all the elements that play into visual design.
Design Software: Programs like Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as A.I. and other design tools. Bring designs to life with industry-standard software.
Visual Communication: Understand your target audience and current design trends to improve your visual communication skills. Bridge the gap between art and functionality and communicate your ideas in creative ways.
What you’ll create:
A sticker, a book cover, and a final presentation showcasing your design work (and more). You’ll finish the class having created fun and effective projects with real-world applications—collaborating with your fellow designers through discussion and critique to improve your work.
I’m excited to meet you in class! If you have questions, let me know.
