School starts at 8:30!
Please remember that school begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. and those arriving afterward are marked with an unexcused tardy.
Drop off begins as early as 8:10 and kids can enjoy outdoor recess until school begins. We welcome your kids earlier so they can get some wiggles out before the school day begins with the added bonus of being on time.
If you are in the car line, please pull all the way up to the front of the sidewalk so that more children can exit at the same time. And, if your child needs extra time and help, please consider parking in the lot and walking them in to help avoid delays.
Please note that when students are tardy, it impacts the flow of the classroom routines and academics.
Brrrr! Will GVS be going outside to recess today?
On these really cold days, the office will check the feels like temperature before the first recess. The decision that is made for the first recess will be the decision for the rest of the day.
Mr. Britton created a video to share the data we use from our GVS weather station.

Walking Program Begins on January 6!

Doors open to the GVS gym at 7:30 and will close at 8:15. If the weather is too inclement for outdoor recess before school begins, all students will go to the gym and be part of the walking program indoors.

A message from our Reading Specialist, Mrs. Buckley:
How Can Learning to Take Turns While Playing Games Impact reading?
Taking turns allows children to understand the concept of sharing and waiting for their opportunity, promoting positive social interactions and cooperation with peers.
Emotional regulation:
Waiting for their turn helps children learn to manage their impulses and frustrations, enhancing their ability to self-regulate emotions.
Empathy and perspective-taking:
By considering others' turns, children develop empathy and the ability to see things from another person's point of view.
Communication skills:
Playing games often involves verbal communication to discuss rules, strategize, and express needs, improving children's language skills.
Problem-solving abilities:
Many games require children to think strategically and make decisions, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Confidence building:
Successfully taking turns and participating in games can boost a child's self-esteem and confidence in social situations.
