UNA Regional Inservice Center
October 2024
Professional Learning....It's What Keeps Up On Top Of Our Game!
Wow! It’s hard to believe that it is already October! I love this time of the year. The cool crisp mornings, the beautiful colors of autumn, the blue October skies, and the smell of pumpkin spice just do something to renew and refresh me.
Speaking of renewal and refreshing, it is always good to keep your professional learning ongoing so that you don’t get into a slump or rut professionally. Whether it’s reading a professional journal or book, listening to a podcast by your favorite educator, participating in a professional learning community, or attending one of the UNA Regional Inservice Center’s professional learning sessions, it is always good to be at your best for your students.
We know that research tells us that the more we know about our craft, the more confident we become. As our confidence increases, so does our efficacy. Of the teacher qualities that lead to success with students, teacher efficacy has been proven to be one of the most powerful (Kim & Seo, 2018). Guskey ( 2021), states “Teachers who see that their actions make an important difference for students not only develop an enhanced sense of teacher efficacy, they also become more open to new ideas to further boost their effectiveness. Knowing that what they do matters, they look for ways to get even better. Focusing on evidence-based practices and designing procedures for teachers to gain meaningful evidence about their positive effects on students is clearly the key to cultivating teacher efficacy - and bringing about significant and sustained improvement in education.”
There is no doubt that ongoing, high-quality, and evidence-based professional learning is a game-changer when it comes to making a difference in the success of our learners. Why not fall in love with professional learning and renew and refresh your professional practices? Never Stop Learning Alabama Educators!
