Reflections from the First Week of School
It has been a joy to welcome our children back to school. We have had a very successful first week and appreciate all your parental support. Our teachers have been focused on building community with students. Students have loved teambuilding activities and time to work with their table groups. Our House Sorting Celebration Days were filled with so much excitement. Be sure to ask your child about their new House. We have enjoyed seeing all of their smiling faces back in the building. We are looking forward to a wonderful year at GSFE!

Four Houses...One GSFE Family
We had so much fun this week spinning for our new Houses. The goal of implementing the house system is to create a positive school culture for our students and staff. Students came to the Commons Area and were placed in the Altruismo House (black house), Amistad House (red house), Isibindi House (green house), or the Reveur House (blue house).
Each group has students from Child Development through Fifth grade. Our goal in sorting the groups this way is to allow students to make positive connections with staff and students across the building. We want to encourage Greatness in every child! Members of their house will be cheering them on every step of the way through elementary school!
The four houses will compete for badges across the year. We will reward points to individual students. Points are earned, not given. These individual points will be tallied to go toward House points. Students have lots of opportunities to earn points for their House for things such as: academic achievement, perfect attendance, positive behavior, participation in spirit days, etc.
Next week, staff and students will meet with their House groups to teambuild and have character education lessons. We will also be strategizing to earn points so our House Family can win the big prize for the year!

GSFE Students of the Week (Week of August 19)
Students of the week are nominated weekly by teachers in the building. These students demonstrate great character and give their personal best! Congratulations!
School Improvement Council
The School Improvement Council (SIC) is an advisory committee to a school’s principal and faculty. The SIC plays a key role in the education of our children, bringing together parents and educators to work collectively to improve local schools. If you are interested in serving, you are asked to share information about yourself and why you would like to serve.
Names will be compiled and voting will be held at a later date.
