Change in Academic Calendar: No School for Students on Monday, April 8
On Monday, April 8, Dover City Schools will be closed to students due to the solar eclipse. Schools will be open to staff only for a teacher in-service day.
All outdoor after-school athletic events and extracurricular activities will be cancelled on this day. All indoor activities and events may be scheduled to resume after 6 pm.
For those in Ohio, a path 124 miles wide will provide a view of the total solar eclipse, with areas outside this path seeing a partial eclipse. Total solar eclipses are extraordinary, occurring on Earth approximately once every 18 months. However, their visibility from any single location is much rarer, making this event an exceptional opportunity. This is the first total solar eclipse visible from
Ohio since 1806, and there won't be another until 2099.
We feel this calendar change provides the most simple and safe way for parents and families to plan ahead and experience the solar eclipse in the best way possible for each family. Educational and safety resources from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce are available here: ODEW | 2024 Solar Eclipse.
As always, we thank you for your support of Dover City Schools.
Dover City Schools’ elementary buildings donated $680.33
to this wonderful organization.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 18 (6:00 PM) at East Elementary School.
Thank you for all your support this school year!
“Purple Up” Day- April 19, 2024
“Purple Up” Day is a day we can show support for students and families of military-connected youth.
Over 14,000 students in Ohio are members of military families. Frequent moves and family separations through deployments, as well as reintegration issues make life especially challenging.
In Ohio, April is the Month of the Military Child. At Dover Schools, we are recognizing the efforts and sacrifices of our military-connected families by wearing purple. All students and staff are encouraged to “Purple Up” on April 19th!
Title Parent Survey
We have enjoyed working with you and your student throughout the school year.
As part of the Title 1 Schoolwide program, we would like to communicate with parents and request feedback as we plan for the 2024-2025 school year.
Dover’s Title I Schoolwide Program is designed to serve the academic needs of all students with a focus on developing reading skills. Every student in grades K-3 has access to Title I services, with Title teachers spending time in each classroom. Reading interventions are data-driven and meet the needs of each learner. Students learn in small groups that are flexible and based on their instructional needs. The Title teacher and the general education teacher work together to plan and deliver instruction. Student progress is monitored regularly.
Please complete and submit this survey before Friday, May 31, 2024.

Child Find Efforts Special Education Pupil Search
Through Public Law-IDEA, school districts around the state of Ohio are joining together in an effort to identify, locate, and evaluate children from birth through age twenty-one who may have disabilities such as physical, emotional, visual, hearing, speech, and learning disabilities. Many unidentified children with disabilities are preschoolers, and parents may not be aware their child has a disability or that there are programs and services available to assist them. Anyone who knows of a child, who may have a disability, should contact Gina Franks, Dover City Schools' Student Services Coordinator, at 330-364-7124.
Lost & Found
If your child has lost their hat, lunchbox, coat, or water bottle, there is a good chance it may be in the school's Lost and Found. All found items are collected and placed in the Lost and Found bin located in the lobby area. To ensure the speedy return of your child's belongings, please label them. However, if your child has lost something this school year, it's important to check the bin as soon as possible.
2-Hour Delay
On a 2-hour delay, all schools will open two hours later than normal and will end at the regular time.

Pick Up & Drop Off Safety
With spring just around the corner, safety for every student continues to be our top priority, especially at drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon. Please remember these few considerations. Thanks in advance for your help in keeping our students safe!
1. Please use the crosswalks AT ALL TIMES when crossing the street, whether it be dropping your student off at school or picking your child up. We have A LOT of traffic around the building during both times, and the use of the crosswalk is to ensure safety of both students and adults.
2. As you drop your child off in the drop-off lane, please be mindful of pulling up all the way.
Additionally, ask your child to have his/her backpack and other items ready to go to keep the
line moving.
3. We kindly ask that you do NOT park/vacate your car in the drop-off/pick-up lane or behind staff parking (3rd Street) when dropping off/picking up your child as this creates a standstill for traffic.
Thank you for your help!
Birthday Treats
We would like to remind you that bringing treats for classmates on your child's birthday is a voluntary practice and participation is optional. If you decide to bring treats, please notify the teacher at least one day prior to the day of the celebration. Also, please remember that all treats must be store-bought and individually wrapped. Additionally, students should bring enough treats for the entire class and the teacher. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring that all students have a fun and safe celebration. Treats will be distributed as directed by the classroom teacher. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Grade 3-English Language Arts & Math Test
Statewide testing will begin next week. If your child is a 3rd grader, he or she will participate in this test.
As always, regular attendance is very IMPORTANT, especially during testing. Please make every attempt for your child to be in attendance during testing, and encourage a good night's sleep the night before as well as a good breakfast the day of testing.
It is our goal to encourage students to simply try their very best and to keep stress at a minimal level. We believe our students are prepared and will do a great job!
Please don't hesitate to contact your child’s teacher with any questions.
