We had a lovely week full of field trips, 6th grade camp, and field day! Next week, we will have our 6th grade picnic, traditional kickball game, Yearbook signing, Senior Clap out, 6th grade dance (parent must be in attendance), and our Kindergarten celebration. We only have THREE full days left next week (Monday-Wednesday) and two half-days on June 6th and 7th. Reminder that dismissal is at 11:29AM.
STAFF VS. STUDENT KICKBALL GAME:
We are excited to host our staff/student kickball game outside from 2:15-3:00pm. We are looking for parents to help with supervision of students outside. If you are interested in supporting us, and have a background check on file, please let the office know. Thank you!
DRESS CODE FOR SCHOOL
We have had an up-tick in recent dress code incidents at school. Please be sure to review the Student Handbook excerpt below, particularly the tank tops and shorts: "Knee length shorts and skirts" and "shoes must be worn at all times." Please remind students that they should not be switching shoes with others as well.
UCS Handbook, p. 73-74
"School Appropriate Attire and Appearance Utica Community Schools takes pride in its students and encourages school appropriate attire and developing good hygiene and grooming habits. Student dress and appearance that is neat and clean contributes to a positive school environment. Student dress and appearance should not be disruptive to the educational process. Consider the following guidelines when selecting school clothing: • Indecent, tattered or unsafe dress or footwear, or attire that calls undue attention to the wearer or has lettering or symbols that are disrespectful or derogatory are not allowed. • Beach wear, low-cut tops, tank tops, sleeveless tops, muscle shirts, see-through clothing, short skirts or shorts, pajamas, tight clothing without proper coverage and clothing exposing the shoulders or mid-section are not allowed. • Knee length shorts and skirts are acceptable. Shoes must be worn. • Outerwear, such as coats and hats, is not to be worn in school. • Clothing that promotes illegal substances or drugs, illegal activities, violence, tobacco or alcohol is prohibited. • Clothing or head coverings worn as group identifiers that promote a disruptive school climate are prohibited. • Clothing consistent with religious or cultural beliefs is acceptable. • Jewelry and accessories that may be deemed dangerous are prohibited," (p. 73-74).

ATTENTION SIXTH GRADE FAMILIES
Greetings 6th grade families-
With the end of the school year quickly approaching, we felt it necessary to keep you up to date on several reminders with important dates and other necessary items to remember.
BEHAVIOR REMINDERS: Firstly, our students have several fun activities and special events coming up. As a reminder, our behaviors in school must continue to be school appropriate. We have seen an increase in some behaviors and not following the rules. As these are special events, please help remind your sixth grader to continue to maintain elementary appropriate behaviors, especially including: APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE at school/recess/lunch and on the bus, NO PHONES, Hands/Feet to ourselves, and respectful behaviors. Thank you for your help with this matter.

Please review all Utica Community Schools behavior policies in the Parent Handbook attached to the link below. It is expected that all UCS policies and procedures will be adhered to at any/all school functions and on school properties. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
SCHOOL SAFETY UPDATE
Safety remains a priority for our school. Collins Elementary is once again providing training to our students on our safety protocols. The protocols identify actions that students may be asked to take in the event of a potential incident: hold, secure, lockdown, evacuate and shelter.
The training is provided through a short, animated video. In the video, the teacher – Mrs. Appleton – and her students walk through the different responses in a very relaxed and engaging way for younger children. The script was written by our staff.
The protocols will continue to be part of the training while practicing our regular school safety drills, such as fire drills, security drills, tornado drills, evacuation procedures, etc.)
The video is available for you to review at this link: UCS School Safety: Standard Response Protocol - Elementary - YouTube If you have any questions, please contact our office.
