THE LVMS BLEACHER REPORT...
Cross Country (Coach Karg)
This is our inaugural season!!
WOW! That's all I can say about the way our athletes competed on Saturday at our home meet. We had many runners improve their times from our Tuesday time trial. Some even shaved up to a minute and half off their time. It was obvious that our athletes came to compete on their home course!
Stand out racers Esther Long finished first and Skylar Stefka came in 3 seconds behind her to finish 2nd overall. Our first 5 girl runners finished in the top 20 to help give us a score of 45 total points. Our girls finished second to Gateway who scored a total of 41 points.
Our boys did equally as well with our first 5 runners also placing in the top 20 with Lucas Lawless coming in as our first Lago runner and placing 4th overall. The boys also came in second to Gateway with a total of 61 points.
Thank you to all the amazing parents and family members who came out to cheer on our runners.
Volleyball (Coach DuBose & Coach Holt):
Amazing! Is all I can say about how our girls did the other night against Florence. The 7th Grade Gold Team started off the night with an awesome 2 set win. The first game was a close 25-22. Josey Kannmacher scored a total of 9 points on her serves. Grace Coldicott and Bree Greenless had a great game on the front row with a couple of points each. The second set was a super exciting win of 26-24. The gym was extremely loud and pumped up after this win!
The 7th Grade Blue Team took us for a little ride during their match. After losing their first set, they only had one direction to go. They decided they were not going to lose again. They went 3 sets total: 9-25, 25-21, and 27-25. Needless to say, they kept everyone on their toes. These young ladies continue to amaze me with their efforts on the court. Katelyn Coldicott played a huge role in getting us back into the game on the third set from being down 22-24. Savanna Wolff racked us up some points on her serves and did a great job. Aryanna Wallace and Haylee Horn were super aggressive on the front row and were ready to attack anything that came their way. Great Job Ladies!
The 8th Grade Gold Team fell short to Florence 25-21 and 25-23. These are tough losses because it is a matter of just a few points between the win and the loss. They did a great job and continue to get better each week. Caly led in serves with 5 in a row.
The 8th Grade Blue Team ended the night with their second back-to-back win of the season. It was AMAZING! The first set they lost 25-23. Then they came back and won the next two sets: 26-24 and 25-18. I am so incredibly proud of them for not just giving up after that first game. Instead, they corrected themselves and remained positive, and came out with the win. Mallory Webb led the team in serves with 14 total serves. Reese Jennings came in during the 2nd and 3rd set and played extremely well on the front row scoring her team a few points in a very crucial part of the game. Her attitude on the court is exemplary. I applaud her for always having an amazing attitude and being willing to be thrown into any situation at any time. Great Job Ladies! One Team, One Dream!
Our next game is in Blanco on Monday, October 5th.
Go Lady Vikings!
Football (Coach Fowler, Coach Rague, Coach Rogers, Coach Tomlin)
LVMS Football vs. Mt. Valley MS Hawks
October 1, 2015
The Vikings traveled to Canyon Lake HS to take on 4A Mt. Valley MS. The Super Team
played a competitive 1st half. However, they found themselves behind at then at the end of the 2nd qtr. by 16-0. The 3rd quarter began well with David Rague taking the Kickoff from the Hawks for a 42 yd. return. This set-up the Vikings for their first score after two attempts. Jagger Nowak scored on a 8yd. to pay-dirt. The extra point attempt had Peyton Hibner following his line for the 3yd. run. At 4:30 to go in the 3rd, Vikings 8 & the Hawks 16. Each team exchanged a couple of drives but the Hawks flew by the Vikings after a pass and run combination. The final score at the end of regulation: Hawks 22 – Vikings 8.
Viking football for the 7th grade started with a bang After a 3 & out by Mt. Valley, fullback Lane Powers hauled-in a pass from Adrian Hernandez for 54 yds. and a score. Kaleb Alderete rushed on the 2pt. conversion and scored after running through most of the Hawk defense. Vikings 8-0. Both teams went 3 & out for two series and the half ended with the Vikings up 8-0. The 3rd qtr. opened with Lago Vista receiving the kickoff and Josh Alexander going the distance of 76 yds for a touchdown. Noah Hernandez caught the 2pt. conversion pass from brother Adrian and the Vikings found themselves up 16-0. The Vikings kicked off and held the Hawks on their following possession, but on 4th down a bobbled snap by the Hawks led to a tackle on their own -2yd. line. The Vikings took over and Adrian Hernandez sneaked it in for the touchdown. Adrain then rolled-out to make a throw on the 2pt. conversion but found no one open and ran it in himself. Now the Vikings lead estended to 24-0 with 4:00 mins. to go in the 3rd quarter. The Vikings continued to play tough defense and defend the pass as well. Great defensive plays from Lane Powers, Josh Alexander, Kaleb Alderete, Dillon Amstutz, Cash Jennings, Rory Maxwell and a host of others maintained the Vikings lead into the 4th quarter. At the 6:54 mark in the 4th, Adrian Hernandez threw an interception to give the Hawk’s life and 6pts. The tough defense held on the 2pt. conversion and the score held at 24-6. The rest of the 4th qtr. had Lago advancing the ball down the field at the of regulation and taking a knee on the Hawks 6yd. line to end the game. Lago Vista 24 & Mt. Valley – 6
As the sun set above the stadium, the 8th grade Vikings had some tall orders in front of them. They needed to overcome some extra weight from across the ball and push the Hawks backwards. However, the Vikings snapped the ball on their next punt to give-up a Safety for 2 pts. After kicking off to the Hawks, Mt. Valley rushed for a touchdown to now lead 8-0. The 2pt. conversion by them was good and now the Vikings were down 10-0 at the half. When the 3rd qtr. was underway the Hawks continued moving the ball and stuffing the Lago Vista offense. This lead to two more scores for the Hawks to take the lead 24-0 with 1:31 left in the 3rd. The Vikings finally began moving the ball offensively in the fourth quarter but were held out of the end zone to finish the game losing 24-0.
