The Eagle Press
Week of August 19, 2024
Dear HAE Families,
Greetings! I hope you and everyone in our Hendricks Avenue Elementary Community are doing well, as we enter our second week of school following a wonderful opening of the year!
HAE Fall Portraits are this Monday! Students will have the opportunity to get their picture taken by Leonard's Photography - CLICK HERE for purchasing info. There will also be retakes in October.
The brand-new DCPS App is now available! CLICK HERE for more info. This app is how parents (with Focus accounts linked to their student) get updates from the district and me, and can access their student info. HAE Teachers communicate regularly through either the app or via email. Check with your homeroom teacher to confirm how they intend for you to get their messages.
One more quick note: We want all our students to be well-rested and well-fed every day before school. Breakfast is offered free of charge from 8:00 to 8:25 each morning. Students with food or drinks from outside restaurants, coffee places, etc. must dispose of those items before reporting to class by 8:30. Email admin with any questions or concerns.
Thank you, as always for reading. Have an amazing week!
All the best,
Darrell Edmunds
Principal

HAE Dismissal Procedures
Remember - K and 1st students (and their siblings) pick up in the back car rider area. Please pick up all other students in the front car rider area.
HAE will once again be using PikMyKid for dismissal this year. Remember, the PikMyKid app is not required for pick-up. NOTE: The ONLY way to access your student(s) in the app is with a DCPS-linked Focus Parent Account that includes an up-to-date cell phone number. CLICK HERE for info about how to set up your Focus account.
HAE/DCPS Digital Device Policy
The new 2024-25 Duval County Public Schools Elementary Code of Student Conduct is a collection of rules and policies for Hendricks Avenue Elementary for maintaining a safe, secure, and respectful school environment that reflects the highest standards of our community and society.
New this year, smart watches are included with other network communication devices in our policy:
If students possess a wireless communication device, it must be turned off and kept out-of-sight inside a book bag, purse, or similar container, unless authorized by the Principal/Designee or teacher. It is the expectation that parents/guardians should only contact students through the school office during school hours.
The COSC is attached here for your reference. Contact HAE administration with any questions. Thank you for your support with this policy.
Parent Lunch with Students
We welcome parents to have lunch with their child!
- Please be sure to have a volunteer background check completed and processed prior to your visit at your student's scheduled lunch time.
- Please have lunch with your student at the courtyard picnic tables, the designated area for visits.
- Each student is only allowed to eat lunch with their respective parent/guardian. Parents are not allowed to take students who are not their child from the cafeteria.

New Worlds Reading Initiative - Free Books
The New Worlds Reading Initiative is a FREE at-home literacy and book delivery program to help advance literacy and a love of reading among students who are not yet reading on grade level.
The New Worlds Reading Initiative is administered by the University of Florida Lastinger Center for Learning, in partnership with Scholastic, the world’s largest publisher and distributor of children’s books. The program provides our students with the chance to receive one free book per month in English, Spanish, Haitian Creole or braille during the school year, for a total of nine books per year. This is a great opportunity to help build at-home libraries and foster a love for reading in your home.
Enroll your child today by visiting newworldsreading.com/enroll.
HAE Parent not receiving this newsletter directly?
If you are not already receiving these messages, it could be one of several reasons:
- The parent/guardian does not have a linked parent account – A parent needs to have a Parent Account that is linked to their child to receive these automated messages. Follow the steps above to create one.
- Incorrect phone number/email – The phone and/or email may be incorrect. Parents can review and update their contact information in OneView. They can log into OneView, click on “My Contact Info” and click on “Edit Info” to update their information as needed. Allow 24 hours for changes to go into effect.
- Miscellaneous – In some cases, the parent has done everything right. They have a parent account that is linked to their child, and their contact information is correct. In these cases, please contact us at dcpsnews@duvalschools.org so that we can troubleshoot.
