LITTLE VIKINGS
Into the Forest we go!
Life on the Farm was hard work!
Making pumpkin pies and butter from scratch was hard work, but we did it! Your students have learned a lot in the past weeks about life on the farm. We really enjoyed learning about different animals and their functions on a farm as well as crops and the importance of bees and scarecrows. Being able to mix in cooking/baking as part of our math and science curriculum in a unit is really a favorite of mine and it seems to be a hit with our students as well!
Life in the Forest
Our next unit will be all about the forest. The types of animals that dwell there, their habitats and habits. We will also learn about the various types of trees and ecosystems found in forests in the Pacific Northwest. Your students are really able to grasp these concepts well when we weave them throughout all our subjects. I get so excited when they randomly drop facts to me in conversation that we learned previously. They are an observant bunch!
Math
We have just finished up basic shapes and how to identify them, easy task as most of our students already knew them, good job parents! We will be transitioning into using shapes in pattern work.
Religion
We are really working on getting the children to understand that Advent is a time for waiting, anticipating and how magical that is. We know that Christmas is important because it is Jesus's birthday and that he is the greatest gift we could ever receive. We have discussed the liturgical calendar and how our prayer table changed from green to purple and what we can do to prepare for Christmas (visit a neighbor, prayer, donations, helping you to clean and decorate). We are also attending a daily prayer and sing along for advent each morning with the entire school, it is such a special time!
