News & Updates K-12 | Term 3 Week 3 | 29/07/2024
Principal's Welcome
DEAR PARENTS, GUARDIANS, STUDENTS & STAFF
Welcome back for second semester.
Term 3 is an exciting time of the school year. It is the final term of formal classes for our Year 12 students. At last week's Year 12 lunch it was clear that our senior students are focused on their last weeks of formal secondary schooling. It is always a privilege to hear their stories and also their wisdom on what we can do to enhance their school experience. We look forward to preparing a meaningful graduation time for our 2024 graduating class.
We will also take time to celebrate all that is Frayne on our Frayne Day celebrations. Due to a limit of numbers that can be on site at the Duncan Street Campus there is the necessity to hold separate Frayne Day celebrations for each campus. The dates for the celebration days are:
Balmoral Street Campus: Tuesday 17th September
Duncan Street Campus: Thursday 19th September
Whilst we cannot bring our whole community together for Frayne Day the change presents an opportunity to plan a program of events that are campus and age appropriate for our students.
COLLEGE ADVISORY COUNCIL MEETING
Our college is blessed to have a very committed and proactive parent representation on our College Advisory Council. The College Advisory Council collaborates closely with the College Leadership Team who also attend these meetings.
Our College Advisory Council Chair Mr Richard Miles shared the following statement from last week's College Advisory Council Meeting:
The College Advisory Council met on Tuesday 23 July 2024. It was a very productive meeting. In particular, the Council was briefed on the status of three key review processes: the K-12 House Review, the Pastoral Structure Review and the Secondary Timetable. It is very clear that the College's leadership team continues to work hard to create a contemporary and positive learning environment for our children. The changes that are proposed will no doubt take some adjustment for the school community, but they are the product of good consultation and have been carefully considered and thought out. The Principal and the leadership team will be making further announcements about the review outcomes over the coming months. The Council also considered the focus areas for this term, including the commencement of master planning processes for both campuses.
With Richard's words in mind information pertaining to decisions regarding the College secondary timetable, pastoral structures and K - 12 House Review will be shared with parents in the coming weeks once we finalise some finer details.
CAMPUS ENHANCEMENT UPDATES
Over the holiday period, Phase Two of the reFRESH Frayne project was completed. This project was the transformation of the Student Services Area into our new Pastoral Care Centre. This centre, which still includes Student Services, now has a dedicated space for the College Nurse and sick bay, College Psychologist and the Heads of Year Team. Mrs Pauline Bourke, in a restructured role of Deputy Principal Pastoral Care, now has oversight of this team and all things pastoral. We are very pleased that the space could be refurbished, painted, furnished and all staff located over the holiday period.
Library Enhancements have also begun with a plan to refurbish and transform our library space into a place where students can access all learning services. Mr Matthew Hall in his new role as Director of Innovation and Learning Services has oversight of this project. During the holiday period minor refurbishments were made to house our ICT team within the library.
Our Café on Duncan Street has also begun its refurbishment. The aim is for our Café to be a vibrant meeting place for hospitality and friendship. Under the leadership of Chef Nic we are trialing different menus and opening hours. In time, the refurbished Café will be named, open all day and a place known for quality food and service for students, staff and also parents.
Not to be left out, changes have also been aplenty at the Balmoral Campus with the addition of both a new playground area on the Balmoral Street side and shade cloths between the Year 5 classrooms and Admin Block. These shade cloths will provide shade protection over the courtyard which is well utilised by students for games. In addition, shade cloths were also installed over the Naturescape playground outside the Early Learning Centre, to provide better coverage while the children play.
NEW BUSES
Our two new Buses were delivered to the College last week and will be in operation transporting students this week! The two 40 seater Yutong Buses are a welcome addition to our new transport fleet. Our new buses will also be named and branded in the coming weeks.
TERM 3 FOCUS AREAS
Over the course of this term Frayne Today will keep our community up to date on the following key focus areas for Term 3:
- Finalise the K - 12 House system and naming of House Patrons
- Begin the process of naming of College Buildings and Spaces
- Development of a Partnership with the Australian Medical Association to introduce an onsite Medical Industry certified course
- Development of a Partnership with Madalah to support Aboriginal student enrolment
- Progress phase three of the reFRESH Frayne project, the College Library

I wish everyone a wonderful term three.
For your children | Mark Antulov | Principal

Further to that, tomorrow sees Balmoral Campus staff and students welcome Robyn Collard and Cheryl Lennox as special guests for the day. Robyn will conduct a special smoking ceremony at Balmoral Campus and Cheryl will hold a series of short yarning sessions with all classes.
NAIDOC WEEK PRAYER
Thank you to our Year 10 Ministry Leaders, Ryan, Ishita, Elda and Isabelle, for their poignant and thoughtful prayer, written as part of our College NAIDOC Week celebrations.
God of all wonder,
We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land as they strive to look after this rich Earth.
We recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for through their struggles, they have found hope.
May their achievements, accomplishments and successes continue to act as a guiding light for us as we acknowledge the pain of the past, appreciate the diversity of their culture, and commit to a future of respect and understanding.
Lord bless them. Allow them to reconnect with their land on which we stand. May they become stronger in love and unity as we celebrate the unique gifts harvested within them and us, the community.
Bless us with open hearts and minds, that we may learn from their deep spiritual connection to the land and waters, and their respect for all creation.
In your name we pray,
Amen
ORCHESTRAL MASS - ST MARY'S CATHEDRAL
On the 21st of July, a number of Frayne students had the incredible opportunity to participate in the 9th Orchestral Mass held at St Mary's Cathedral.
Issy Llapitan, Tahlia Reilly, Euan and Patrick Macapagal, Aidan Chui and I performed as part of the orchestra, alongside several Frayne alumni including Sean Vyner, Charlotte Greenway and Ms Erin Bussanich who is a current Frayne music staff. Ethan, Josh, and Luke Vergara also sung sublimely in the cathedral choir.
Alongside many students from schools across WA, we attended two rehearsals before the performance which allowed us to make new connections with astounding musicians, many of whom were professionals affiliated with WAAPA.
On Sunday, the orchestra and choir performed a total of 8 pieces featuring numerous solos that together, enhanced the already magical atmosphere of the cathedral and celebratory mass. With music being one of my biggest passions, I loved being part of the magic and look forward to taking up the opportunity once again next year after graduation.
A massive thank you to Mr Baker for presenting us with the opportunity to partake in this project, and for supporting us on the day along with Mrs Quin. Special thanks to Jacinta Jakovcevic (music director of SMC) and Sarah Mills Menogue (our guest conductor).

Available to all schools across Western Australia, the competition spans across two days and caters for both Middle School, Year 7-9 students, and Senior School, Years 10-12 students.
During the recent competition, which took place on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26 June, three Middle School teams and five Senior School teams demonstrated their skills. Among them, the junior girls' team, comprised of Teagan Scott, Joey Scott, and Annie Nguyen, claimed the championship title, showcasing exceptional gameplay and teamwork.
Meanwhile, the senior boys' team, including Luke Scott, Brendan Scott, and Robin Roberts, earned a commendable third place overall, demonstrating their talent and determination. This series not only celebrates athletic achievement but also nurtures camaraderie and sportsmanship among the student participants.
