Meet Our New Principal -Sally Hayes
I am thrilled to be joining the Flynn Community as the new principal this fall. I am a lifelong educator and I believe deeply in the mission of public education. I worked in the Burlington School District as a classroom teacher for thirteen years; I began at IAA for one year and then taught at C.P. Smith for 12 years. After 13 years in the classroom I moved on to be a principal at Brewster-Pierce Memorial School in Huntington. After leading the BPMS community for 11 incredible years, I decided that I would like to return to Burlington and serve my own community. I look forward to working alongside you as the new principal at Flynn Elementary.
At the heart of my educational philosophy is my belief that all children can do well when provided an environment that promotes curiosity, student voice and choice and fosters deep thinking. All children can grow and develop new skills when provided with the opportunities to take learning risks and become independent thinkers. I look forward to creating a supportive, caring school environment for everyone ~ students, staff, support staff, families and visitors.
When I am not at school you will definitely find me outside being active or inside baking something delicious. I love to hike, bike, run, garden, ski and most of all walk my dog on the beach. I have a black lab named Duck who makes me laugh every day. I am one of six children and my husband Jeff and I have six children, three of whom were students at Flynn! I love to bake treats: cookies, cakes and muffins and I’m always looking for new recipes. I also love to read and still get great joy in reading aloud to children of all ages.
I look forward to meeting you all soon and to a terrific year ahead! Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out to connect about anything related to school. shayes@bsdvt.org And please consider following us on Instagram at: flynnschool_bsd.
