Principal's Message
Hello Thurston Families,
November has been a busy month full of learning and fun, both inside and outside the classroom. Our fourth grade students just finished their two weeks of swim lessons with Willamalane. Our kindergarten and second grade students celebrated FriendsGiving where they were able to make their own food and share what they are thankful for with their friends and teachers. Along with that fun, we have a school spirit week planned for the last week before winter break. We are finalizing the details and theme for each day and will share it out the first week of December.
Thank you for taking the time to attend parent teacher conferences. This time is so valuable to share progress and gain insight about your child. We look forward to continuing this partnership and communication throughout the school year.
Warm Regards,
Amber Mitchell, Principal

Call the office?
Please call the office by 9:30 a.m. to let us know when and why your child will be absent. Also, we try to have consistent after-school plans for each student. If your child's after-school arrangement is different than usual (i.e. being picked up at school rather than riding the bus), please let us know by 2 p.m., so that we can get a message to your child in a timely manner. The office phone number is 541-744-6411.
Biking Safely
Earlier this month we received a call from a concerned parent. She observed young students riding bikes to school, weaving their bikes as they rode down a neighborhood street. Some were also not wearing helmets. As a reminder, Oregon law requires all bicycle riders under the age of 16 to wear an approved helmet while riding on a public path or roadway. However, it is recommended that all people wear a helmet when riding bicycles to help prevent or lessen the severity of a potential head or brain injury.
We value our students' safety; we ask that you share this concern and talk with your kids about the importance of using a bike or scooter safely, especially on roads where there could be traffic.
**Please also stress the importance of staying on the sidewalk, instead of walking in the street or the bike path.
Willamalane After-School All-Stars
Willamalane offers skills camps after school at school sites. The next one at TES begins January 13th, for 5th Grade boys basketball. Click here for more information; scholarships are available through Willamalane, if needed.
