Asa C. Adams School Newsletter
December 2024
Dear Asa Families,
We have almost made it to the winter break! Can you even believe it?! Our classrooms and hallways are full of artifacts of student learning and engagement. It is obvious that the students, and all of our teachers, are working hard to grow!
Families sometimes ask what more they can be doing at home to help their children at school. The answer is simple. Spend time together. There is immense value in quality time with one another. My hope for each Asa family is that this winter break provides some time for you to spend a little more quality time with each other. I challenge you to put the devices down and break out some “old school” board games. Did you know that children have to learn to lose? It’s one of those skills that can be taught by simply playing a game of UNO or checkers. Cook together, read together, play together and make new memories as a family!
Also, ‘tis the season….to depart from regular schedules. Please make your best attempt to keep your children eating healthy foods, sleeping adequate hours, and coming to school dressed to battle the cold weather. As the holidays approach it is easy to get caught in the additional hustle and bustle and neglect our health. Thank you for being mindful of this and sending healthy, rested children to school.
A very special THANK YOU to all of the parents and special adults who do so much for our school. Truly we would not be nearly as special without the adults who volunteer their time, manpower, ideas, and all other contributions to our school. We appreciate you more than you could ever know!
Finally, for those who are celebrating, we hope that you and your family have a wonderful holiday season together We are so grateful to have the opportunity to serve such incredible students, staff, and families here at Asa C. Adams Elementary. Please be well, and remember we are always here if you need us.
Warm regards,
Ms. Wyman and Ms. West

New Playground Officially Open!
The new Asa school playground is officially open. The new playground was initially inspired by our dedicated PTO members almost two years ago. Alongside the equipment upgrade for the roughly thirty year old structure was the opportunity to complete some ground work allowing for better drainage and hopefully less mud in the spring time.
Brrr...it's time for winter clothes.
Please make sure your child brings all of their winter gear to school with them each day. We go outside each day for recess and other activities as long as the temperature is 10 degrees or higher.
Asa C. Adams PTO Update!
Dear Asa Families,
We’re excited to share that our recent Craft Fair was a huge success! It was truly heartwarming to witness the spirit of giving in each of your children. We are grateful to everyone who contributed their time and talents to make this event possible. The Craft Fair is no small feat, and your support made it an incredible experience.
Looking ahead, we’d like to ask for your help in getting a jump start on next year’s event. Our leftover supply of crafts this year is limited, so the need for donated crafts next year will be significant. To help ensure we are well-prepared, we encourage families to start crafting earlier in the year. We also welcome donations of gift bags and tissue paper. If you happen to find these items on clearance after the holiday season, please consider picking them up and donating them to the PTO. Your contributions make a world of difference!
We also have some exciting news for you! If your children haven’t already shared, we’re pleased to announce that the new playground opened this week. We are proud to have played a role in moving this project forward. Additionally, we are thrilled to share that we’ve secured $15,000 from the Orono Old Town Kiwanis, which will be used this spring to enhance the new play structure—most likely with more swings!
Our next Teacher/Staff Coffee Cart will be on December 20th. Look for a Sign-Up Genius to be distributed soon. Looking ahead, we’ll be preparing for the return of our silent auction this spring, and with any luck a new exciting family event.
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or ideas. We’re so grateful for our wonderful community of caregivers, students, and staff. Wishing you and your families a joyful holiday season!
Warmest wishes,
