🐺 Weekly Howl 🐺
This week a recurring theme was the notion that "it takes a village." Nearly everyday someone, a family member, a teacher, a staff member whispered these words across a variety of situations. As we near this year's end, we thank each and every member of our village for your contributions.
This week we had families support 6th grade Greek Olympics, 7th grade Around the World, and the 8th grade picnic. At each event students competed playfully, connected without screens, and had a great time. As I type, family members and alumni are busy preparing for our 8th grade dance. It is humbling to see how our village comes together to support and celebrate our students.
Next week is minimum days, with at 12:30 dismissal every day. We ask that students leave their backpacks at home. Wednesday, June 5 is our last day, and we look forward to welcoming our students back on Wednesday, August 14.
Have a great weekend Wolves!

ATTENDANCE LINE
When excusing an absence, families should call and leave a message on the Attendance Line: 510-317-5599. When leaving a message please state the student's name or ID #, the reason for the absence, and the name of the parent/guardian calling.
ABSENCE ERRORS
If you receive a call, email, or text about a student's absence that you believe to be in error, please have the student see Ms. Kelly in the Main Office within 72 hours of the recorded absence.
COVID Protocols (as of 1/29/24)
- Stay home if you have COVID-19 symptoms until you have not had a fever for 24 hours without using fever-reducing medication AND your other COVID-19 symptoms are mild and improving.
- Mask when you are around other people indoors for 10 days* after you become sick or test positive (if you have no symptoms). You may remove your mask sooner than 10 days if you have two negative tests at least one day apart.
- Avoid contact with people at higher risk for severe COVID-19 for 10 days*. Higher-risk individuals include the elderly and those who live in congregate care facilities.
- Seek treatment. If you have symptoms, contact a healthcare provider as soon as you test positive, especially if you are at higher risk for severe COVID-19.
Important Learning to be done!
In our efforts to curb tardies, we continue to enforce the following rules in order to promote an effective learning environment:
- 10/10 Rule: Students will not be allowed out of class in the first and last ten minutes of class. This is to ensure that they are getting set up for success, have the opportunity to write in their planner, and complete warm up activities. The last ten minutes ensure they get the homework and any last minute announcements.
- Teacher Dismisses the Class, Not the Bell: Students are often anxious to get out to break and transition into their new classes. Students need to remain seated until their teacher dismisses them. This will have the added safety benefit of reducing the number of false fire alarms as students have less access to the pull stations.
- Hall Passes: When students leave the classroom, they are required to have a current hall pass that marks the time they left and the location to which they are going.
While these are all procedures WMMS staff are working together to implement, reviewing them with your student will be very helpful. We thank you for your support.
Washington Manor Middle School Vision & Mission Statement
