December Newsletter from Lincoln!
Lincoln Families!
We hope everyone had a fun-filled Thanksgiving Break and your children returned to Lincoln excited to get back into routine and learning. This week we sent out an additional reminder about dropping off, and picking up at LS, and the importance of safety. This has been something that has been reported numerous times and is important we are following speed limit signs, the rules of the road, and being mindful of our neighbors (Prince of Peace) when using their parking lot. Again, thank you for your understanding!
Additionally, this week we had quite the frigid temperatures! It is always important to ensure that your children are dressed appropriately on their way to school, during recess, and on the way home.
For recess, students must have on winter boots and snow pants to play in the snow at recess time. With the chilly temperatures, please remember to send your child to school with the appropriate winter clothing (Hats, Gloves, Scarves, Winter Coat, Snow Pants, Snow Boots).
This week we also provided all students with an additional review of expectations while eating lunch while reminding our Lincoln Lions the importance of being respectful, responsible and safe in the MPR where we eat lunch.
Lastly, this month at Lincoln we are focusing on the expectation for our student to demonstrate "Respect" as part of our PBIS Pillars "Respectful, Responsible and Safe." Each week we are focusing on a specific way to demonstrate respect. This week we emphasized the importance of personal space and body proximity. Classes had a chance to review an SEL lesson and see a few helpful videos on the morning announcements regarding this. The next two weeks, we will discuss the importance of respectful language and the week before Winter Break hone in on respectful actions and whole body listening!
Your children know that if we do an effective job of demonstrating this at Lincoln, it will culminate with a pajama and game day on December 20th as a whole school reward! Feel free to have a conversation with them all December long about the importance of demonstrating respect!
If you need anything in the meantime, please let us know!
Go Lions,
Jack Olson

Cold Weather Attire
At Lincoln, students go outside for recess every day, so they should dress appropriately for the weather. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor's note excusing him/her from outdoor recess. Please remember as we look ahead to winter months to send students to school dressed for the weather. Students must have on winter boots and snow pants to play in the snow at recess time. With the chilly temperatures, please remember to send your child to school with the appropriate winter clothing (Hats, Gloves, Scarves, Winter Coat, Snow Pants, Snow Boots).
Please contact your child's teacher or the office if you need assistance providing the appropriate winter clothing for your child.
Cold weather: Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
- If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
Important Reminders About Attendance
As we continue to move along in the 24-25 School Year in District 15, I want to highlight the importance of daily attendance in your child’s academic success.
Regular attendance is key to academic achievement and personal growth. Each day in District 15 offers new opportunities for learning, and we ask that you prioritize your child’s presence in school. Research shows that attendance directly impacts academic performance and helps students feel more connected to their school community.
This year, every District 15 school is encouraging all families to commit to missing 9 days or less for school success. Every lesson, discussion, and interaction contributes to your student’s progress, both academically and socially. Being in school not only fuels learning but also opens doors to extracurricular activities and social connections.
While we understand that occasional absences may happen due to illness or other circumstances, please ensure your student stays in communication with their teachers and promptly completes any missed work.
As the weather begins to change, and frigid temperatures are on the horizon, it is important to be mindful of ensuring are students stay healthy and attend school.
Thank you for your partnership in making this a successful year of growth and learning.
