NEU Field Club Newsletter
March 2024
A message from Mrs. Griger
Hello, NEU Field Club Families!
March always makes me happy.
Even though there’s still chances of cold, snow days, I know that spring is coming. Spring always brings a different energy to the building as we enjoy more outside recess days, watch the world around us turn and feel the sunshine on our skin.
As we think of March and nearing the end of the school year, it is hard to believe that we are a week away from spring break and the fourth quarter! Just like every school year, this year seems to be flying by. As we prepare to wrap up the school year, all scheduled end of the year events can be found below. We have fun, end of the year activities planned for our NEU students!
As the weather warms up, it is encouraged to still continue to bring winter gear for the coming weeks as the temperature can change on us throughout the day.
Thank you for partnering with NEU Field Club to help all students learn and grow every day.
Let's keep learning and growing, NEU Field Club!
As always, reach out with any questions or concerns.
With NEU Pride,
Mrs. Griger

Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on March 27 from 4:30-7:45 and March 28 from 1:00-7:45. By now you should have started to receive communication from your child's teacher about your scheduled conference time. If you are not sure of your conference time or need to make a change, please reach out to your child's teacher or call the office. 531-299-1380
You will be receiving two more reminders before conferences.
Heating and Cooling System Upgrades
Last Fall, the district notified us that we would be receiving an upgrade to our current heating and cooling system with new water-cooled chillers. (Chillers pull heat from the building and pump the hot air to the outside. See more below.)
In addition to the new system, the front of the building will be receiving a face lift of sorts. We will soon see the green space and walkways between the main doors and door #2 to the west cordoned off.
In order to install the new system the following changes will take place
1. The green space (small hill with tree) will be leveled and the tree and shrubs will be removed.
2. The brick wall will be opened up to bring in the new system and a set of double mechanical doors will be installed.
3. A wall will brick to match the existing brick will be built to cover the view of the doors.

TUESDAY, MARCH 5 - BINGO NIGHT
PTO Bingo Night is Tuesday, March 5 from 5:00-6:30PM. We hope the luck of the Irish will be with you as you enjoy a family fun evening of BINGO!
Prizes for BINGO: The PTO is also looking for donations of any size and can be in the form of cash donations or material goods. We would love to have some great prizes to offer our guests. So, if you, or anyone you know has a small business that would like to donate, or anyone feeling generous to donate to the cause, please connect them with the NEU Field Club PTO at: fieldclubpto@gmail.com
If you have donations you would like to drop off at the school, office hours are 8:00AM-4:30PM.
We hope you can join us for some BINGO fun on the 5th of March!
Thank you in advance for sharing the love and generosity!
Rock Your Socks
Every year on March 21, people all around the world come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing brightly colored, mismatched socks. March 21 is symbolic because people with Down syndrome have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome. Socks were chosen because the karyotype of Ds chromosomes actually looks like mismatched socks!

ATTENDANCE - STRIVE FOR 95
Understanding the importance of attendance. The idea behind Strive for 95 and the importance of attending every day breaks down in the following way.
Based on the percentage of 180 days of school
Not Chronic - 5%: Students in this category do not miss more than 9 days per school year.
At Risk - 5-10%: Students in this category miss between 9 and 18 days per school year.
Moderate - 10-20%: Students in this category miss between 18 and 36 days per school year.
Severe 20% +: Severe. Students in this category miss more than 36 days per school year.
The bar graph below shows percentages of the Field Club population who are Not Chronic to Severely Chronic.
The table represents the number of students in each category.
Our goal is to decrease the numbers in the yellow, orange and red zones. Parents are our greatest resource in making this happen by getting students to school every day, on time!
- If your student is going to be absent, please communicate that with the office every day of the absence. 531-299-1380
- If your student has an appointment, please be sure they are only absent for the necessary amount of time need to attend the appointment. Please be sure to bring a Doctor's note to the office so we can account for the missed minutes.
