28th November 2024
Dear Parents and Friends of our School Kia Ora/Hello/Kamusta
Kia ora koutou,
Wow it is hard to believe that we only have 11 school days left until the end of the school year. We are really excited about our upcoming hangi and thank Megan and her amazing team of parent helpers who are all pulling this together at such a busy time of the year. Further details below.
Letters will be going home today to all Year 3's and Year 1's, to share which class your child will be in for 2025. For all other year groups please refer to our previous newsletter for school organisation.
This year we will be presenting the Year 8 leavers awards at the Year 8 Leavers Dinner. We will hold an assembly on Thursday 12th December at 2.00pm to represent these infront of the whole school.
We have had such an amazing response from parents to attend and assist as parent supervisors for our 2025 school camps. All three camps only require a limited number of parent helpers and we have had almost double that required for each camp. Notes will be going home today outlining who will be attending camp. We know there are going to be some disappointed parents. If your name is on the list and you can no longer attend or are happy to give up your place please contact your child's classroom teacher asap. If a police vet form is attached you will need to fill this in in order to attend camp and return asap.
We seem to have quite a few families not getting notifications when there is a new app alert. This can be for a variety of reasons including new updates and older phones. You have two options to receive app alerts or emails. Receiving emails may be a more reliable option for some of our families. If you need a hand switching please pop in and see us or give us a call.
Learning Journey Reports will be available on Thursday 28th November for families to view. These are accessed through our HERO APP. Here is a link to information explaining what you will see on your child's report page. This information is also available by clicking on the "About This Page" option on your child's 2024 report page.

ROOM 5 BUILD A BUSINESS
This year, Room 5 completed a project called "Build a Business". The primary goal was to teach financial literacy and promote Green Star skills and qualities by using the profit to give back and help others. The class made a total profit of $724 and together the students chose to use the funds in the following ways:
-purchasing two new vices for the workshop for everyone to enjoy - $240
- plants and seeds for our bee garden to aid our honey production - $30
- donating towards more daffodil bulbs to support future fundraising to the Cancer Society - $250
- contributing towards costs for the upcoming hangi, an event that brings the school together - $200.
This project has been a valuable learning experience for our class, and we are grateful for the community’s support of our market day!
Can you help?
Room 5 is on the hunt for a wonderful handy man or woman to install two new vices in the workshed. If you are able to help could you please email Miss Smith gemma.smith@toko.school nz.

Lost property will be on display in the school hall from 2nd to 6th December. Please take a moment to check the items for anything that might belong to your child. At the end of the year, any unclaimed items will be washed and donated to Hospice.

Each fortnight we will be sharing some kupu that we are using in our classrooms. You may want to learn along as well. We will provide the word, how to pronounce it and how to say it in a sentence.
