SEPTEMBER 2019
A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome back Team Trafalgar students and parents!
Trafalgar Elementary earned a school grade of an “A” for the 2018-2019 school year!
This grade is a result of the hard work and dedication of our students and staff, as well
as the support of our parents and the community. Congratulations!
We are gearing up for another great year. The 2019-2020 school year will be a great one as we continue to focus on doing what is best for students.
Smile and Be Kind,
Mrs. Murphy
NEW ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL-MS. MICHELE STANFORD
It is with great pleasure and excitement that I have become a member of Team Trafalgar! I am excited to be the Assistant Principal of Trafalgar Elementary, and I am looking forward to assisting Mrs. Murphy with all the great ideas and initiatives at Trafalgar Elementary.
I was born and raised in Fort Myers and graduated from Florida State University. (GO NOLES) I have been in education for 20 years and taught first and third grade. I earned my Masters in Administration at Nova Southeastern University, and the decision to become an administrator came from a desire to make a positive impact on an entire school, not just my classroom of students.
The students of Trafalgar Elementary are the future, and it takes all of us to be actively involved in their education. I encourage you to help our students to meet and exceed the expectations we have set for them. I am looking forward to meeting each of you over the school year. Please know my door is always open to help support you and focus on what is best for our students. Please stop by I would love to meet the great families of Trafalgar Elementary.
Go Eagles,
Ms. Stanford
SAFETY FIRST
If your child is a walker, it is expected that they are able to walk to their house. Please do not park and wait for your child. The parent pick up line or bus is the safest way for children to go home at the end of the day.

NO PEANUTS OR NUTS IN THE CLASSROOM
Since lunch is eaten in the cafeteria, your child may bring peanut butter, peanut or nut products for lunch. In the cafeteria, the children are closely monitored for exposure. This plan will help to maintain safety in the classroom while allowing non-allergic classmates to enjoy peanut/nut products in a controlled environment.
Following lunch, the tables will be cleaned with soap, water, and paper towels each day. We appreciate your support of these procedures.
ELEMENTARY PHYSICAL EDUCATION INFORMATION
Your child will have physical education four days per week for 40 minutes each class. PE is held outdoors. Our physical education program provides the skills, knowledge and attitudes that facilitate choosing physical activity after school, at home and in the community.
A few things to ensure your child’s success and enjoyment during physical education class:
To help your child enjoy and participate safely in physical education class, please have your child:
1. Wear tennis shoes and socks daily. It is very important that students wear shoes that are appropriate for vigorous physical activity. ALL shoes must be laced and tied.
2. Shorts should be worn under all dresses and skirts.
3. Students are encouraged to bring their own water bottle, with water only. Please have first and last name on water bottle.
4. Hats, sunscreen and sunglasses are also recommended.
5. All children should be applying sunscreen (that blocks UVA and UVB) at home before they get dressed to come to school EVERYDAY with a minimum of SPF 30.
6. Put your child’s first and last name on ALL of their jackets, water bottles, hats, etc..
School Board Policy for Physical Education Excuses:
A written excuse from home is necessary to exempt your child from participating in a PE class. The excuse may be presented up to three consecutive days, and then a medical excuse is required. If your child has been under medical care, a doctor’s note must be presented to release your child from the medical excuse for regular participation into the PE program
CAUGHT READING!
Welcome back! We are excited to continue our school’s “Caught Reading” board again this year! ‘Caught Reading’ pictures will be displayed on the first board as you enter the breezeway of our school. Simply snap a picture of your child reading anywhere outside of school. It could be at the park, the beach, the pool, or just relaxing at home. Email your picture to Nicolecc@leeschools.net. Please also include your child’s name, grade, and class. We love seeing their pictures and your children love seeing themselves and their friends on display. We appreciate your encouragement of reading as students discover that reading takes us to new places!

RAINY DAY DISMISSAL FOR WALKERS
If there is severe/extreme weather consisting of lightning and/or heavy rain at the end of the school day, students will not be released to walk or ride their bikes/scooters home due to safety concerns. The office will contact parents via an automated messaged at 1:45 p.m. to notify parents that they must come to Trafalgar Elementary to pick up their child. Students will remain in breezeway until parents pull up to the front of the campus. At that time, your student will be called to come to the car. If the parent decides to park and walk up to pick up their child, parents must bring their ID and sign the child out in the office.
If it is raining, but it is not lightning, students will be released to walk or ride their bikes/scooters home as they regularly do.
