RRMS E-News
August 26th - 30th, 2024
What a great start to the school year!
This week in Raider Nation was filled with excitement and important activities! We successfully conducted an earthquake drill, ensuring that students and staff are well-prepared for any situation. It was wonderful to see so many parents join us for the Athletic Parent Meeting and SIC Meeting, strengthening our community bonds. We also had a warm welcome breakfast for our new 8th graders, making them feel right at home. Parents, don’t forget to nominate someone for our School Improvement Council – your involvement makes a big difference! Also, please remember that Friday, August 30th is an early release day for students. Students will be dismissed at 11:45am.

MAP Testing Information
During the testing window of August 27- September 6, 2024, students in grades 6-8 will take the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) test in the areas of Math and Reading. This adaptive assessment is used to inform teachers of each student’s ability in multiple areas and to help us monitor student growth over time. Specifically, the fall data provided by MAP assessments will show how much your child has grown in reading and math skills since the Spring '24 assessment and help them set their growth and achievement goals for this school year. Additionally, MAP data is a good predictor of student performance on the SCReady state assessment students will take in May 2025.
Although the MAP test is not an assessment that you can prepare for by studying, there are a few things that parents can do to help ensure that students are prepared and ready for testing. Please make certain that your child is on time to school, well rested, and has eaten a good breakfast each day they test. Encourage your child to perform at their best to show what they know. Thank you in advance for your support and assistance as we work together to help ensure the success of our students.
The RRMS Fall MAP testing calendar below indicates the specific dates of testing:
Tuesday, August 27, 2024- Reading and Thursday, August 29, 2024- Math The following week will make time for any necessary make-ups.
IMPORTANT: We are offering an incentive to encourage our students to be present and perform their best on MAPs next week. Students who are present and on time to take the MAP test on both Tuesday and Thursday will be awarded a dress down day for $1 on Friday August 30th.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to Ms. Knight (jknight@rhmail.org).

District Announcements
Dear Rock Hill Schools Family,
As we move further into the school year, our sports and after-school activities will ramp up and we expect you will join us in keeping our campuses and facilities safe.
First and foremost, we expect every visitor to any of our fall activities to be respectful toward the athletes, thespians, band members, staff, administrators, other guests and law enforcement partners working our events.
All guests to our district stadiums are required to adhere to our Clear Bag Policy. When guests come to our facilities, they will not be permitted into the activities with any bag other than a clear bag. The bags also may not be larger than 12 by 12 inches and 6 inches deep. For more information on the Clear Bag Policy, visit our Safety and Security page: https://www.rock-hill.k12.sc.us/Page/9159
Weapons are not permitted on school property – including during sporting events, forums, and arts performances - unless you are a sworn law enforcement officer permitted to carry with proper identification. Our Safety and Security team will be working entrances to many of our events to screen guests for weapons.
Entry to District Stadiums
This year we have revised our entry guidelines for high school football games to promote a safer environment for our community.
- All district high school students must have a ticket/pass and show their school-issued student ID to attend a high school athletic competition without a parent or guardian.
- If the visiting team is not a Rock Hill School District school, students from that school must show their school ID and have a ticket in order to be able to attend the event without a parent or guardian.
- Anyone without a school-issued ID, under the age of 18, must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.
- Middle school students must have an adult accompany them at sporting events. No middle school students will be permitted to stay at games unaccompanied.
- Guests to our events will not be allowed to stand, congregate, or “hang out” in the concourse or around the concession stand areas during the games.
- Any violation of rules may result in removal or being trespassed.
Our safety and security team will continue collaborating with the Rock Hill Police Department and York County Sheriff’s Office to ensure everyone can feel comfortable and safe in our facilities.
Thank you all for your kindness and support.
