The Riverwalk Roar
The Riverwalk Roar: October 13, 2024
Levi Deason (2), Killian Crabtree (3), and Brandon Massey (7) of Ms. Genica's class are seen here selling some delicious popcorn and refreshing lemonade to our awesome 3rd graders! Not only did they serve up tasty treats to our entire K-9 crew, but they also raised funds for the Special Services and Education classroom.
These young entrepreneurs didn't just stop at selling—they researched the best fundraising ideas to help budget for their upcoming classroom activities and future field trips. Instead of just asking parents for donations, they rolled up their sleeves and earned every cent! Their hard work paid off with a whopping $536 in products sold!
We're so proud of our Lions for supporting our school community with creativity and enthusiasm! Keep roaring, team! 🦁
Wear Orange on the 16th!
Unity Day, started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center in October 2011, is the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month in October. This is a day when we can come together to send a visible message of building commUNITY through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. The call to action is simple: wear and share the color orange. This vibrant statement becomes a conversation starter, showing support for students who have been bullied and for bullying prevention.
Happy Sunday, Pride!
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed a relaxing break (or a few days off for our 10th—12th-grade students). Since my wife and daughters work and attend school in a different district, we didn’t get the chance to take a family trip. However, I used the time to come into the school for a few days to catch up on work. Don’t get me wrong, I love when our building is filled with students and staff, but there’s something about the quiet that boosts productivity!
I did take a break on Thursday and headed down to Columbia for the SC Public Charter School District Board meeting, where they recognized our very own Hank Farquar (4th grader) for being one of just 23 students in a district of over 20,000 who earned a perfect score on the SC Ready exam last spring. Later that evening, both our middle school and varsity volleyball teams celebrated victories in their matches—a great day all around!
Looking ahead, we have some busy weeks on the horizon. First, we are sharing a draft of our 2025–2026 school calendar. Many surrounding districts have unveiled their calendars, and it’s clear that the “modified year-round” approach is catching on, as many are adopting similar schedules. Parents, take a moment to share your feedback on our draft calendar—your input is important to us.
Here are a few key events coming up:
Kona Ice Day is this Thursday, so be sure to place your orders by Tuesday.
This Friday, our PTO is hosting the Fall Festival and Trunk-or-Treat—we hope to see you there for a fun-filled evening!
At the PTO festival, our athletes will be hosting BINGO, so make sure you check them out.
Next week, we’ll be celebrating Red Ribbon Week with the following themed days:

Wednesday (23rd): Put a Cap on Drugs – wear your favorite cap
Thursday (24th): Shine Bright Like a Star and Shade Out Drugs – wear sunglasses
Friday (25th): Be on a Drug-Free Team – wear your favorite team jersey
As we dive into these events, I want to extend my thanks to each of you for your ongoing support and involvement in making Riverwalk Academy such a special place. Whether we’re celebrating individual student achievements, cheering on our volleyball teams, or coming together for Red Ribbon Week, it’s your participation that helps keep our Pride strong.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the Fall Festival and Trunk-or-Treat on Friday. Let’s make the next few weeks ones to remember!
Have a fantastic week ahead, and as always, thank you for being a part of our Pride.
In Pride and Purpose,
~Dr. Compton
