Lake Bluff Elementary School Family Newsletter
Deal Lake Bluff Families,
It was wonderful to see our community come together to celebrate our school’s Centennial this past Saturday. The inside of our 100-year-old building was bustling with energy as former students and staff, along with current and future families, explored the building and the displays curated by the Historical Society and Milwaukee-based historian, photographer, and faience tile artist, Ben Tyjeski.
Mr. Tyjeski has written a book and produced an accompanying short film about the history of both the historic and contemporary art tiles that adorn Lake Bluff. HIs book describes how the tiles were made, who created them, and shares the stories behind the artworks and their context in a public space designed for children.
One of my favorite parts of the day was watching former students reconnect with their now-retired teachers and share memories. During the festivities on the school grounds, students participated in face painting, enjoyed a visit from the fire department, and indulged in cupcakes.
A huge thank you to the PTO and the Shorewood Historical Society for organizing this special event.
This past weekend’s event was just the kickoff to a year of celebration. The PTO has several exciting things in the works, and the Historical Society is eager to collaborate with our staff and students.
Ms. Courter has already begun incorporating the Centennial theme into her art classes. Please enjoy the beautiful artwork created by 1st and 2nd grade students, depicting 100 concentric circles.
I hope you all enjoy your weekend,
Johanna French, Interim Principal

Mapping Our Future: Take Our Survey Today!
Take Our Survey!
As you know, the Shorewood School District is embarking on a visioning and strategic planning process during the 2024-25 school year and we'll be addressing the following needs:
- Evaluate our educational model
- Investigate trends in K-12 and higher education and implications for our schools
- Respond to challenges of state funding for public education
- Identify options for financial sustainability
Your feedback will guide us in mapping the future of our district and what education will look like for students. What do you envision for the school district in the next five years and beyond? Take the opportunity to share those ideas with us in the short survey available Friday at Shorewoodfuture.org.
Impact of Technology on Kids
Franklin Public Schools and Pewaukee School District will be hosting a Family Info Series that will educate parents about the impact that technology is having on our children.
