October is long in the tooth - just a few days left. On Tuesday, Halloween, we will once again offer "$5 Costume Dress Up" for students who want to wear their Halloween costume to school. This is one of our best fundraisers. Students can wear their costume all day - they just drop $5 in the bucket when they come to school. The $15 paid at the beginning of the year (for those who chose that option) does not cover this fundraiser. This is in addition to the normal $2 Donation Dress Down we do at the end of each month. This is a fundraiser - if your student does not have $5 to participate they can still wear their costume. All funds are used to buy our Watch Me Learn prizes and pay for the bounce houses, prizes and magician for our end of year Field Day palooza.
NOTE - Students can NOT wear masks with their costumes - they can bring their mask and carry it around - they just cannot have anything covering their face. There are no exceptions to this no matter how important the mask is to the costume. We need to see their face and know who the student is.

Our Model in Action
Unlike a traditional school where math and reading instruction is provided in a large group setting designed to meet the needs of the students in the "middle", students at Bridge meet with teachers twice daily for reading and math in a small group where instruction is tailored to meet the needs of the students.
P90 Reading and HOP Math
In addition to small group instruction in reading and math, many students also receive an extra dose of small group instruction in reading and/or math for 30 minutes daily to further meet their needs. Every student in grades 1 - 3 receive P90 reading and some students in 4th grade receive this extra reading support.
PLPs and KLPs
Our Personalized Learning Plans (grade 1-6) and Kindergarten Learning Plans identify goals and action plans for reading and math, to help students reach their goals. Teachers meet with students and update progress to ensure students are working towards goal attainment. The PLP and KLP are shared with parents digitally via email. Parents are invited to meet with their student and the student's teacher to review the PLP each quarter.
STATIONS
Station time allows students time to practice skills learned in small group, learn new skills working with a para-educator, work independently on PLP goals and work collaboratively with peers. Stations are typically set up to allow students choice in their learning.
CAIS
Computer Aided Instruction System (CAIS) - this is our Imagine Learning program students use for language arts and math each day. This program is adaptive and continually assesses students' needs and adapts instruction to meet the needs. Teachers use the data from the programs to help inform instruction during small group as well as the activities students complete during station time.
SPECIALS
Our classroom teachers primarily teach language arts and math. All the other subjects are taught by specialists when students attend "specials". During "specials" classroom teachers meet together to review student data and prepare lessons and activities for small groups and stations. Students attend several specials each week including visible learning, Second Steps, STEM, writing, fine arts, PE, health, science, and social studies.

The survey results include SHOUT OUTS. Read through these - they will make your heart all warm and fuzzy! The number one suggestions in the "NEEDS IMPROVEMENTS" included "build another parking lot" and "punish or expel the behavior students" (lots of different ways this was worded but the gist was the same).
The parking lot is easy to address. We have no space to build a new one, and until UDOT expands 3500 West we are unable to open the gate at the back of the school and use that as an exit (currently it is for emergency vehicles only). So, we are, until sometime in the future, stuck with being patient, being kind, being safe, being observant and using the parking lot flow as we currently have it implemented.
Behavior is not so easy to address. Yes, we have some friends that struggle. However, we have terrific systems of support in place for all of our kids - some need those supports multiple times each day. If a student is involved in an inappropriate behavior the only people who know what the consequence was for that behavior are the teacher, administration or the student support staff involved with the student (perhaps Mrs. Archuleta) and the child's parent or guardian. Others do not know the consequence. So, if your child comes home and says, "Freddy hurt Joey and nothing even happened", your child does NOT know that "nothing even happened" because your child would not be involved in the consequences for Freddy. If your child is Joey, YOU would not know what the consequence is for Freddy. This is the law - we are unable to share with you what the consequences are for another child.
As a public school, we do NOT get to choose the kids we get as the lottery is a random process, nor do we get to choose the kids we get to keep. What we do get to choose, is how we set up a system that supports all kids and helps them all find success and helps them all feel safe in a positive and supportive environment. We work hard every single day to address the needs of all students. If you feel your child's needs are not being addressed, please reach out to your child's teachers. They can work with administration and student support to ensure we are meeting the needs of all students.

Stacey Archuleta - Student Support Specialist
Mrs. Archuleta is Bridge's student Support Specialist. She is also our 504 Coordinator. Mrs. Archuleta works with our kiddos that need some extra behavior support and sometimes just to provide a listening ear, a safe space and safe person to hang out with for a little while.
This is my fourth year at Bridge and it’s the best place to be! I love working with students and creating positive and loving relationships with them. I love going into the classrooms and watch all of the learning and growing going on. Not only with students but the teachers too! Here at Bridge I have the best coworkers anyone could ever ask for. Everyday is a great day to be here!
In my free time I love reading, crocheting , and concerts!

By using these visible learning traits each day students will become lifelong learners who are set up for success. Please use this same verbiage at home and recognize when your student is using this trait.
2023-2024 Calendar
Volunteers
- Cutting Watch Me Learn tickets (stop by the office).
- Pulling weeds in the rock areas and park strips (we have all the area in front of the school and up 4800 S along the school fence).
- Sorting construction paper into like colors (stop by the office).
- Using rakes and shovels to redistribute the gravel from the bottom of the retention area in front of the school to the top area to cover the black landscape screen.
- Parking lot duty before and after school (just check in at the office, put on a yellow vest and talk to Travis in the crosswalk for instructions).
Once your family has volunteered 30 hours they can stop by the front office and ask for a VOLUNTEER FROG. There is no formal tracking program - just track the hours yourself. Then, write your family's name on the frog and tape the frog on our volunteer pond in the front foyer.
If you want to volunteer but do not have the time, you can donate $90 to cover the 30 hours. If you choose to donate, complete the volunteer form. You can donate in the office or by using our DONATE icon on the home page of our website.
Volunteering or donating is OPTIONAL and is not required to be a student or a parent of a student at Bridge Elementary.

Title I
Bridge Elementary receives our Title I funding based on the percentage of students that qualify for free or reduced lunch. For this reason we encourage ALL families to apply for Free/Reduced lunch through Aspire to ensure every single student receives the services needed, including access to free or reduced meals if appropriate.
Title I provides avenues for parent input and participation. We do this through our surveys and the link to the form on our website which allows parents to submit questions and suggestions.
