Varsity Girls Basketball - Coach Parker
Last night the Lady Cards faced Louisburg in a Frontier League battle. EHS came out hot on offense knocking down multiple three-point baskets. The defense was tenacious and completely took Louisburg out of any kind of offensive flow. It seemed that our girls were getting to every loose ball, or getting a touch on most of the Louisburg passes. The Lady Cards won, 47-17, moving to a perfect 4-0 in the Frontier League and 12-1 overall. Next action is at Baldwin on Friday, Feb. 7th.
JV Girls Basketball - Coach Schreiner
The JV girls basketball team lost a tough battle against Louisburg last night 31-35. Junior Brylee Graff led the defensive effort playing tenacious defense forcing Louisburg to numerous turnovers throughout the game. Leading the offensive effort was Sadie Walker with 11 and Mackenzie Mayer with 10. Abby Watson once again did a great job of controlling the pace of the game as point guard, and did a great job of controlling our offense despite great defensive pressure. The JV girls basketball team is now 6-4 on the season.
Congratulations Coach Schreiner!
Coach Schreiner is ranked first in the following EHS GBB career stats; scoring 1,544 points, steals 273, assists 357, and field goals made 654. Her senior year she was named the 3A player for the year. She went on to play at Emporia State University where she lettered for 4 years.
C Team Girls Basketball - Coach Stueve
On Friday, January 31st, the cardinals matched up against Ottawa's C-team at home. Despite fighting illness and missing a couple of players the lady cards were only down 5 points at halftime. Freshman point guard Bree Gabel led the team in scoring with 6 points and also had 3 steals for the night. It was an overall tough fought game, but the girls fell to Ottawa by 14 with a final score of 12-26.
Monday's game matched us up against the Louisburg Wildcats and the C-Team Cardinals were ready to increase their game pace! The Lady Cards won the tip and scored early followed by a wildcat turnover forced by Freshman Liz Mueting. The Lady Cards had great hustle and were able to knock down some 3 pointers. Freshman Eliza Fewins had three 3 point baskets and freshman Abby Keltner with two. Ultimately the C-Team girls fell to a very talented Louisburg Freshman team. Final Score 26-48. The Lady Cardinals will travel to Blue Valley tonight.
Varsity Boys Basketball - Coach Deterding
On Monday, the boys basketball team played a makeup game against Louisburg. Balanced scoring led the Cardinals to a 65-58 victory. Senior Brett Breedlove led the way with 17 points, senior Jacob Merkle with 14, senior Tucker Shackelord with 9, junior Justin Fawcett with 8 and senior Brant Arnold with 7. Tucker had 11 rebounds and Justin had 8.
On Tuesday, we traveled Holton. Never recovering from a slow start, we lost 38-55. Jacob Merkle had 9 points and Justin Fawcett had 8 rebounds.
On Friday, we hosted Ottawa for our third game of the week. After a good start and taking a lead into the half, Ottawa had a big third quarter and the Cardinals couldn't recover, coming up short, 44-53. Tucker contributed 9 points, senior Noah Watkins, junior Ty Abts and Justin Fawcett each had 8. Noah also had 6 rebounds, 5 assists and took another charge. Brant Arnold had 6 rebounds and a couple of steals. Senior Sloan Hayden provided a big spark battling against Ottawa's all state post player.
JV Boys Basketball - Coach Watkins
It was a very busy week for the EHS BB team, three games in five days. In our first game of the week, we had our makeup game against Louisburg on Monday the 27th of January. The boys loved the opportunity to great to play on our EHS home court. We came out very solid in the first half with good defense and sharing the ball. We were focused on shutting down their sets and we did a great job of that. The 2nd half has been a thorn for us all year especially the 3rd quarter and it was imperative that we get better at that and this game we did. The 2nd half was much like the 1st in that we played great defense and was hitting shots. We ended up winning 61-51 in a great league win. We were led by Landon Watkins (10th) with 26 pts and 3 assists, Jaden Hamm (9th) 10 pts and 6 rebounds, while Traeger Radar (10th) 11 pts and 7 rebounds
In our 2nd game in as many days we traveled to Holton to take on Holton’s JV. We didn’t come out as strong as I would of liked and weren’t hitting easy shots but defensively we played well. The boys held them to 9 first-half points as we jumped out to a 26-9 halftime lead. The 2nd half was much of the same but we did have to many unforced turnovers the 2nd half. We still need to take those away to be able to have complete games. Great effort though by the boys and did what they were supposed to do and get a road win. We won 50-28 and were led by Landon Watkins (10th) with 13 pts, 3 assists and he took a charge. Trager Rader (10th) grabbed 10 rebounds.
In our 3rd and last game of the week we took on Ottawa JV at home. We came out strong against them and pounded the ball inside down low from the get-go. Our big guys inside were able to go to work and get some easier finishes down low after receiving some good passes from there teammates. We jumped out to a 26-15 lead at halftime and kept them at distance for the remainder of the game. With Ottawa always being a physical game I was proud of our boys to be able to handle that pressure and come out on top. We won and the final score was 55-37. We were led by Jaden Hamm (9th) 19pts and 7 rebounds, and Landon Watkins (10th) added 12 Assists.
9th Grade Boys Basketball - Coach Zimmerman
Last week the freshman boys had a three game week. After beating Louisburg on Monday, the freshman boys traveled the next day to Holton and played a non-conference game. Eudora got off to a rocky start making several unforced turnovers, however, in the second quarter, everything started to click. Eudora led at the half 33-15. In the third quarter, Eudora again displayed their solid defense racking up 22 steals and 4 block shots. Offensively, Eudora made a season high sinking eight 3-pointers. Every player on the squad scored at least 3 points. Jaden Hamm led the team with 12 points, Maddox Votaw had 10 points, Jaiden Bender had 9, and Octavius Lyles had 8 points. Parker Hurla had an impressive 6 steals. The all around game belonged to Votaw who had 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals, and drew a charge. Eudora beat Holton 65 to 25.
Eudora capped off the week by beating Ottawa on Friday 56-31. The game was similar to Holton with a slow start but turned it around in the second quarter. Eudora had a balanced scoring attack led by Coner Dunback who recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Dunback also had 5 assists and 4 steals. Votaw also displayed a solid game with 8 points, 6 steals, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. Eudora will try to stay unbeaten as they travel to Baldwin Friday for a conference showdown.
Forensics - Coach Garrison
On February 1, Cody Loganbill competed in the Catholic Classic Forensics Tournament at St. Thomas Aquinas.
