ZESD 6 was awarded The School Breakfast Program Expansion Grant by the Illinois State Board of Education Nutrition Department.
Our district has received a one-time grant in the amount of $10,000. The goal is to improve quality and nutritional standards of breakfast food served using less sodium and sugar and serving a variety of protein sources, whole grains, milk, fruits and vegetables; overall to increase breakfast participation.
On Tuesday, January 28th, middle school students will be able to sample smoothie options during their lunch period and share their feedback on flavors offered. Beginning Tuesday, February 4th, most popular smoothie options will be available for breakfast for middle school students.
