You did it! You made it through the first semester! Ya'll 2020 is almost over, and I am so ready for 2021!

You have worked so hard this first semester, and I am incredibly grateful to be able to work with you. Please take the next two weeks to rest and refill your cup. Take time to disconnect from work completely and to do something that makes you happy!

When you get back on January 4, there will be time to meet and plan in the afternoon. As I did my campus tours, one thing that was discussed over and over again was the need for more time with your counterparts on different campuses. After speaking with building admin, if you choose, you will have time to meet as a PLC with colleagues on different campuses. I know that time together, across campuses, is so important, and I hope that you are able to take advantage of this time on the fourth. If you need help connecting with your cross-district content PLC, let me know, and I will be happy to connect you via e-mail.

A couple of notes as you prepare for January 4:

• All building PD and building-level PLC meetings are priority--but between @2:30-4:00pm is a window of time that connecting with cross-district peers is possible (verify your building info and let me know if you have any questions).

• This is optional, as I know many of you teach multiple preps and have LOTS of things to do, just a window of opportunity to connect with your PLC.

• If you have items you'd like to share with the team, especially if not all members of our PLC can make it, please do. :)

• I will have office hours open during this time, for questions, support, brainstorming during this time, via Zoom (Please, don't hesitate to jump in!)

Just a couple of reminders from Mrs. Guntle: Please put the program code on all of your PO requests. Also, any correspondence coming from CTE staff and teachers needs to have the non-discrimination clause on it. This is what is used at the bottom of her paperwork and e-mails:

Just a reminder that this form must be returned to Mrs. Guntle by February 1, 2020 (no exceptions). This form needs to be filled out for next year, and you need to make sure you include everything you need above your normal miscellaneous supplies budget. That includes all on -line subscriptions, extra-large equipment, CareerSafe, Kaduceus, PassAssured, Applied Education, etc. If you do not include it, there will be no funds for it. If you need any help, don't hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Guntle.

We had our first CTE Advisory Committee meeting this Wednesday! We will be meeting as a council at the end of every six weeks. Members of the committee have been provided your school phone number and your e-mail address. The will be reaching out to some of you very soon to schedule phone conferences or Zooms to provide feedback prior to our February meeting. Please be honest and open with them as I believe this committee plays an integral role in improving our programs and provide industry perspective to what is happening in your classrooms.

Furthermore, we need to add to the committee! We are missing representatives for the following areas:

• Floral design
• Animal science (specifically veterinary medicine)
• Architecture
• HVAC
• Design and Multimedia
• Digital Communications
• Business Management
• Education (specifically k-12)
• Pharmacy
• EMT
• Culinary
• Family & Community Services (i.e., social worker)
• IT
• Computer Science
• Automotive Technology

If you know anyone in these industries that would be willing to serve on our committee, please send them my way!

This year we presented pig trophies to all of the schools that had 100% administrator participation in our pig dinner. Dr. Randle has always been our biggest supporter in LCISD CTE! Naturally the pig trophy for Top Supporter and Contributor went to Dr. Randle!

Floral Design Classes at Foster HS created Christmas Arrangements. Loved all the creativity and how much fun they had! FHS is ready for Christmas Break!!!!!

CTE TEKS Revision Announcement:

Application for State Board of Education Career and Technical Education TEKS Revision Work Groups for Education and Training, Health Science, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and Additional CTE Courses that Satisfy a Science Graduation Requirement

The Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) is now accepting applications from individuals interested in serving on a TEKS review work group for select subchapters of TAC 130. Career and Technical Education (CTE) Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The SBOE identifies individuals, including educators, parents, business and industry representatives, and employers, to serve on TEKS work groups. The work groups will review the course TEKS for courses included in Chapter 130 Subchapter E. Education and Training, Subchapter H. Health Science, and Subchapter O. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics and four additional CTE courses that may satisfy a science graduation requirement: Advanced Animal Science, Advanced Plant and Soil Science, Food Science, and Forensic Science. Course review entails revision of existing TEKS, evaluation of innovative courses for TEKS adoption, and the development of new courses.

The SBOE's TEKS review and revision process calls for multiple, separate work groups. Individuals selected to participate in the TEKS review can expect to be asked to serve in a series of two-day virtual monthly meetings for February through May. Priority will be given to applications received by January 8, 2021.
