A Note From the Principal
Good Morning River Hawk Families,
It is hard to believe the first quarter of the school year has already come to a close. Student grades for Quarter 1 will post to Infinite Campus some time after 3 p.m. on Tuesday. In junior high, student grades start over with the new quarter, allowing students a fresh start again.
To kick-off Quarter 2, ASB is sponsoring a Spirit Week this week. Students participating in the spirit days will earn spirit points for their team (see the graphic above). This Thursday morning we will hold our disaster drill. Students and staff, including our safety team, will practice our procedures should a natural disaster, such as an earthquake, occur.

National Junior Honor Society Application Information
Attention parents and students: The NJHS application period will start AFTER Q1 grades are posted on October 22nd. National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) celebrates scholarship, stimulates service, develops character, and encourages citizenship.
NJHS is open to all 7th and 8th grade students that:
- meet the 3.7 GPA (Grade Point Average) requirement after Quarter 1
- promise to commit to 10 hours of community service, proof of service due by April 15th
- meet the NJHS criteria of positive character and citizenship
The online application is on the website under "students," "clubs," "NJHS." If students have questions they should see Science James in room D-11. All applications are due November 4th by 3pm, no late applications will be accepted for any reason, per NJHS rules, so interested students should apply EARLY. Additionally, students who successfully submit an application WILL receive an email of their responses to their hartdistrict email. If your student does not receive this email, the application did NOT go through. 8th Graders already in NJHS from last year no need to reapply, you should have already received a google classroom code & email from Mrs. James. If you did not receive that, please see Science James ASAP.
*** Parents please do not apply for your student, as this is a club that promotes and encourages responsibility, leadership, character and citizenship. The application will only be open to the students using their hartdistrict email account. Please click here to view the information sheet with all the important details. DO NOT wait to ask questions on Monday, November 4th (the deadline).
Rio Norte Night at Valencia High School's Football Game
This Friday, October 25th is Rio Norte Night at the Valencia High School Football Game vs. Castaic High School. Rio Norte students will be granted free entry IF they have their Rio Norte ID to present at the gate. The game is at Valencia High School's Football Field and starts at 7 p.m. Our band and ASB students will be involved in the evening's events and we look forward to seeing you there. As Valencia HS Football is a community event, Rio families are welcome to attend. Tickets for family members can be purchased through GoFan HERE. Remember Rio Norte students do not need a ticket IF they have their Rio Norte 24-25 ID Card with them.
Socktober Drive Continues through Friday!
Our ASB is still running their sock donation drive through this Friday, October 25th to help local organizations in our own community. We will be donating to Bridge to Home, Family Promise, and the Santa Clarita Winter Shelter. We are collecting new socks from infant to adult sizes. ASB representatives will be at the front gate each morning to accept socks. Please have your student drop off the socks with those representatives in their team's box. The team that collects the most socks will earn a cookie party.

Hart District Attendance Challenge
Attendance Matters.
Regular attendance is key to student success. When students are in class, they can actively engage in learning, participate in class discussions, and build important social skills.
Attendance Challenges:
To encourage and celebrate consistent attendance, we're introducing attendance challenges. These challenges offer exciting prizes, sponsored by local businesses, and encourage good habits.
First Challenge: October 8-31
Students with perfect attendance (no tardies) can enter a drawing to win AirPods.
*Learning Post Academy will explore alternative attendance recognition options for independent study students. More details coming soon.
Let's Work Together:
We believe this challenge will not only motivate students to come to school every day but also foster a sense of community and teamwork among our students. Thank you for your continued support. Together, we'll create a positive learning environment for all students.
