April 2020
Upcoming Virtual College Events
While our District Career Fair was cancelled due to COVID-19, I still want to make sure our students have the opportunity to learn about different career opportunities, that's why I created a new Virtual Career Series. This will take place April - May. These events are advertised on grade level Google Classrooms, (which all students were invited to join) and on our MKHSCollegeCareerCenter Instagram. These virtual events are open to all grade levels and students must complete the RSVP forms to register.
We already had two virtual career events. Here is the recap:
April 8 - Endodontist Dr. Zhujiang - 68 students RSVP and 46 students attended the LIVE Zoom event. Student feedback included:
- I think everything she covered was useful in its own way. I really enjoyed the part where she talked about the different fields of dentistry you could go into or focus on because I was unaware that there were multiple paths.
- The most useful was when Dr. Annie Zhujiang talked a lot about how we should find and explore things we like and continued to talk more on how we could get more qualifying things in order to become a dentist.
April 17 - Medical Professionals Panel - 92 students RSVP and 60 students attended the live Zoom event. This was a 4 person panel moderated by Elizabeth An (CTE Counselor). The panelists included Nurse Practitioner Barbara Nga (MKHS Aluma), Pediatrician Lisa Luu (MKHS Aluma), Pharmacist Tracy Truong, and UC Berkeley Optometry student Amy Wen (May 2020 Grad). Student feedback included:
- All of the speakers seemed to know what they were talking about and were very honest on their journey to get to the place they are now. The most useful or most memorable was that they all stated something related to wanting to be a certain profession at first, but eventually, learned more about themselves and decided to make the hard decision not to become that original profession rather than just "dealing" with it their whole life which is very inspiring.
- I really appreciated the panelists being so honest and sharing things you might have not been so comfortable sharing on the spot.
- The Zoom panel Ms An set up was very meaningful to me and others because it was actually very inspiring and informative.
Upcoming events:

She has a dog, writes in her spare time, and is an avid boxer. - Wednesday, April 29 - Engineering Professionals Panel - 2:00 - 3:15 PM - This will be a moderated panel whether panelists answer questions that students submit on the RSVP form and then a LIVE Q&A.
