Classroom Feature: Mrs. Villegas' Bible Class

Students in Mrs. Villegas' Bible classes had three different competitions to see who could "last" the longest. This connected with their lesson on the lasting power of the Gospel and God's inexhaustible grace, mercy, love, forgiveness, and kindness. His Gospel will last the ages along with it's transforming power to those who would believe!

Teacher Spotlight: Ruth Joy Orr 📖

This week's teacher spotlight is Mrs. Orr, who teaches kindergarten. Her students' parents rave about her talent in inspiring a love of reading in her students!

How many years have you been teaching?

4 years at LCA; 20 years total

Where did you attend college?

Bob Jones University

What do you love most about LCA?

I love the families!

Tell us about your family.

I have been married for 34 years and have two daughters and a son.

Have you always lived in the DFW area?

We are originally from North and South Carolina. We moved from Costa Rica to DFW in 2004.

Tell us about a teacher who inspires you now or inspired you as a child.

My sister! She is 17 years my senior, so I was influenced by her during my college years of indecisiveness.

What are you most excited about for this school year?

Seeing my students become great readers, hopefully for life.

How do you spend your summer breaks?

Visiting far-away family, reading, walking, and kayaking.

What are your “trapped on a desert island” books or movies?

Perhaps George MacDonald books… and I don’t seem to tire of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Semester Exams for our 8th-11th graders are right around the corner! Be sure to check Gradelink for the most up-to-date picture of your child's progress. If you have questions about your child's grade, be proactive in reaching out to their teacher now.

You can find the Winter Exam Schedule below. This applies to all 9th-11th grade students, as well as 8th graders who are taking a course that earns high school credit (i.e. Algebra 1).

The Parent-Teacher Fellowship Team is hosting a Christmas Luncheon for our teachers on Wednesday, December 18th. Pasta is on the menu! There are still a couple openings left for bringing a pasta dish, but mostly we need parents who can watch students while teachers enjoy lunch together.
