Chester Elementary School

Dear CES Family,

Welcome to March! These past few weeks I have had multiple conversations about parenting tips that might help student be more successful at school. Without assuming the role of a pediatrician, here are some basic thoughts for you to consider:

• Sleep: 9-12 hours per night
• Routines: keeping things routine and predictable helps kids feel more in control. Example: bedtime, meals (dinner in particular, with everyone at the table...lots of benefits here).
• Responsibility: give your child a role in the upkeep and maintenance of your home (cleaning their room, doing dishes, stacking wood, etc.),
• Regular physical activity: get them outdoors! More activity than electronics is always best for kids.
• Diet and nutrition: junk food might taste good and make them happy in the short-term, but will do them no favors in the long-term during their rapid growth and development in elementary school.

I hope you all are well. As of the writing of this newsletter, the predicted Snowmageddon has been a bust. If it does finally show up, happy shoveling to the whole family! See you next week.
