Message from the John Glenn Principal
Dear John Glenn parents, students and staff,
I hope this message finds you well. As the weather warms up and we continue to navigate through the school year, I wanted to take a moment to underscore the importance of good attendance and its profound impact on your child's academic success and overall well-being.
Regular attendance is not just a matter of punctuality; it is a critical factor in your child's educational journey. Each day of school presents valuable opportunities for learning, growth, and social development. When students are consistently present in the classroom, they benefit from:
Academic Progress: Attending school regularly ensures that your child does not miss out on vital instruction, discussions, and collaborative activities that are integral to their academic advancement. Every lesson builds upon the previous one, and consistent attendance is key to mastering concepts and achieving academic milestones.
Social Interaction: School provides a unique environment for students to interact with peers, build friendships, and develop essential social skills. Regular attendance allows your child to engage in classroom discussions, group projects, and extracurricular activities, fostering a sense of belonging and community within the school.
Routine and Discipline: Establishing a consistent attendance pattern instills discipline and responsibility in your child. By adhering to a regular school schedule, they develop important life skills such as time management, organization, and commitment, which are invaluable for future success in both academic and professional pursuits.
Teacher Support and Guidance: Our dedicated educators play a pivotal role in your child's academic journey. Regular attendance enables students to benefit fully from the guidance, support, and individualized instruction provided by their teachers. It also facilitates open communication between parents and teachers, allowing us to address any concerns or challenges promptly.
Preparation for the Future: Building a strong attendance record sets a positive precedent for your child's future endeavors. Employers, colleges, and universities often place great emphasis on punctuality and reliability, and good attendance habits cultivated during school years can significantly impact their future opportunities and prospects.
As partners in your child's education, we urge you to prioritize good attendance and make every effort to ensure that your child attends school regularly and punctually. If your child is facing any barriers to attendance, whether they be health-related, transportation-related, or otherwise, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are here to support you and your child in any way we can.
Together, let us continue to foster a culture of academic excellence, engagement, and achievement at John Glenn. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to your child's education.
Warm regards,
Scott Kelley

Attendance
Regular attendance is crucial for your child's academic success. Please make every effort to ensure your child attends school on time every day and stays throughout the whole day. Consistent attendance throughout the school day allows your child to engage in learning and maximize their educational opportunities fully.
Illness: If your child is not feeling well and cannot attend school, please notify us immediately. Students who are ill should not attend school to prevent the spread of illness to others.
Excused Absences: We understand that there may be instances when your child needs to be absent due to illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, or other legitimate reasons. Please notify the school in advance whenever possible to classify the absence as excused.
Unexcused Absences: Unexcused absences negatively impact your child's education. Absences without valid reasons will be considered unexcused, and appropriate actions may be taken per district policy.
Timely reporting of absences helps us maintain accurate attendance records and ensures that your child's absence is properly documented. Absences must be reported within 24 hours.
There are two convenient methods for reporting your child's absence to facilitate efficient communication and accurate attendance records.
You can notify your child's school through the dedicated attendance line. Please leave a detailed message stating your child's name, grade, and reason for absence.
You can report absences directly through MiStar, our secure online portal for student information. MiStar provides a user-friendly interface that allows you to submit absences.
Thank you for your ongoing support in creating a positive and productive learning environment for all our students.
