Chesapeake Science Point Elementary
Message from The Principal
Dear Chesapeake Science Point Elementary Families,
I hope this message finds you well and settling into the new school year! I want to take a moment to thank all of our families for working with us to ensure a smooth start. As we continue to move through the year, Iβd like to highlight a few important reminders.
Traffic Patterns and Safety
It is essential that all families adhere to our schoolβs designated traffic patterns during drop-off and pick-up times. Following these routines helps to keep everyone safe and ensures that the flow of traffic runs efficiently. Please remember to be patient and mindful of our staff and students, as we work together to maintain a safe environment.
Attendance and Timeliness
Consistent school attendance is critical to your childβs success. Each day, students build on their learning from the previous day, and arriving on time sets them up for a productive day ahead. When students are tardy, they miss valuable instructional time that is difficult to make up. Please help us ensure your child arrives on time and ready to learn every day.
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
Finally, we are excited to recognize and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins on September 15th. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to honor the rich cultural contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities. We look forward to engaging students in meaningful activities and celebrations throughout the month.
Thank you for your continued partnership in making Chesapeake Science Point Elementary an incredible place to learn, grow, and succeed!
Warmly,
Mrs. Tabatha Camacho
Principal
Fun Run
For all information about Fun Run, see the website: 2024 CSPES Fun Run (google.com).
Temi Needs You!
We are looking for consistent volunteers who will come to the school each week and take our Temi Trolley to our classrooms so that students can purchase items using their Temi Tickets. If you are available and willing to help, our teachers, students and Temi would greatly appreciate it!. Please visit the following link to see available times and days https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BDLZq3lErHeLbKbzPW6lYHvJ12Rs4ncyldtxkEv0kBw/edit?usp=sharing If you are willing to help, sign up for the available slot by placing your name and email address in the box. Thank you!
Important Traffic and Pick up Reminders
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone for helping make our dismissal process smoother than expected. Your cooperation, patience, and teamwork truly made a difference.
We appreciate the efforts of our teachers and staff, who ensured everything ran efficiently, and we are grateful to our parents for their understanding and support.
Together, we've set a positive tone for the school year, and I am confident that this spirit of collaboration will continue to benefit our students and community.
While things did better than expected, I want to reiterate a few key points.
There should only be one lane around the bend near the school entrance, not two
Please drive all the way down and take a U-Turn at the end of the road, and DO NOT BLOCK the road with poor U-turns.
Finally, please remember...
- To follow the shared traffic patterns
- You MUST have tags in the window. New ones were emailed over the weekend if you don't have one for last year or didn't receive one this year.
- There are no early dismissals after 1:40 (call main office for emergencies)

Being Successful in the 2024-2025 School Year
Friendly Reminders
Homework Expectations
Homework is non-negotiable. Your child will have homework 4 days a week.
Monday and Wednesday is Math homework and Tuesday and Thursday is Reading homework.
Uniform Policy
This uniform policy was shared with all families at Enrollment Sessions in the Spring of 2024 and during the Dress Rehearsals in August 2024. Please review it in its entirety.
Please be aware that Spirit Wear (including CSPES sweatshirts) are not uniform compliant
Shoes must be mostly black with black or white laces. Colored boots, shoes with patterns, multi-colored sneakers, etc. are not uniform compliant
Students may wear black or white long sleeved shirts under their polos to add a layer for warmth.
Students may wear black or navy blue leggings underneath their skirts, skorts, etc., to add a layer of warmth.
Attendance
This attendance regulation/policy was shared with families during Dress Rehearsals in August 2024
Attendance is critical to your childβs academic, social, and emotional well being. They miss much more than just classroom instruction when they are out.
If your child misses 2 or more days of school in a one month period, they are considered to be chronically absent. You will receive notices documenting your childβs attendance as we follow state-mandated processes for monitoring attendance.
Unlawful absences of 10 or more consecutive days will result in your child being withdrawn from the school
Clubs
Clubs dismiss promptly at 3:40. Please arrive at 3:40. If you are late more than twice, your child will not be permitted to attend club activities.
We understand that emergencies occur. If, for some reason, you will be late, please notify our front office immediately 443-883-3919.
Traffic Patterns
Please adhere to the one-way traffic rules at all times. This includes during arrival, dismissal, and enrichment pick up/drop off
New: If you are dropping your child off late, picking them up early, or picking them up midday, you will also need to adhere to the one-way traffic pattern
Morning and Afternoon Parent Line
Please be kind and courteous to each other in our parent pick up lines.
Please take turns merging from 2 lanes to 1
Follow the directions of all staff members
You must be on campus at 7:45 to go through the drop off line. At 7:45, Mrs. Schlegel and Mr. Chandler will direct you to park and walk your child in through the main office. You must sign your child in on the left iPad.
If you need a refresher on traffic patterns in the morning and afternoon, please click here.
If traffic is preventing you from turning left onto Signature Drive, please make a loop and line up in a queue along the curb, entering campus by turning right.
Bus Behavior Expectations
Please review the bus contract that you agreed to prior to the start of the year. You are responsible for the information in this contract.
Please familiarize yourself with the AACPS Student Handbook, specifically pages 22 & 23 of this document.
Birthday Celebrations
Food-related items for student birthdays are strictly prohibited
If you would like to send in a non-food item with your child to celebrate their birthday, please coordinate with your childβs classroom teacher.
Everyone's favorite activity is back for the 24-25 school year

MAP Testing
Greetings Parents,
Chesapeake Science Point Elementary School will administer Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Growth Assessments to students in grades K-6 during the 2024-2025 school year. The MAP Growth assessments are given three times during the school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. The Fall testing process will begin during the week of September 16. Kindergarten and 1st-grade students will need their headphones for the test.
MAP testing helps us understand your child's strengths and areas where they may need additional support, ensuring a personalized learning experience. It is important to understand that MAP testing is not about passing or failing; instead, it provides valuable insights to help us customize instruction and support for your child's individual needs.
For more information on MAP testing and to access additional resources for parents, please visit the NWEA Family Toolkit at https://www.nwea.org/the-map-suite/family-toolkit/.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact your child's homeroom teacher or Ms. Derin at jderin@mycsp.org.
Thank you for your continuous support.
Sincerely,
Juliana Derin

Share your Alma Mater pride with our CSPE Students
We are excited to announce a new project at our school, and we need your help! We are planning to hang college pennants in our school's hallway to inspire our students and provide them with a glimpse of the diverse educational paths they can pursue. To make this display even more meaningful, we would love to include short videos from our parents sharing their college experiences.
If you are interested, please consider recording a brief video (1-2 minutes) telling us which college you attended and why you loved it. Your stories will add a personal touch to the pennants and offer valuable context to our students.
To participate, simply fill out this form and upload your video. We greatly appreciate your support in making this project a success!
Thank you for your time and contribution.
