EDUCATOR OF THE WEEK
We’re excited to celebrate Kate Lyons-Mailloux, Director of ESL, as this week’s MPSD Educator of the Week! Kate plays a vital role in supporting English Learner (EL) students across the district, from PreK through grade 12. She collaborates closely with teachers and administrators to ensure inclusive, effective instruction and provides essential training and consultation that empowers staff to meet the diverse needs of EL students.
Beyond the classroom, Kate builds strong connections with families through her leadership in the English Learner Parent Advisory Council (ELPac), fostering communication, engagement, and trust. Most recently, she was instrumental in organizing the vibrant and successful MPSD Mosaic Event, a joyful celebration of our district’s cultural richness and community spirit.
Kate’s passion, expertise, and unwavering commitment make a lasting impact on students, families, and educators alike. Thank you, Kate, for all that you do to help every learner feel seen, supported, and celebrated!

DISTRICT-WIDE BELONGING TEAM
Our third Belonging Team Meeting took place Monday, March 3, 2025. We looked deeply at what is happening with belonging initiatives throughout the district and heard from some fabulous high school students who are starting a "Breaking Boundaries" club to work with elementary schools regarding social-emotional learning. We will continue to update the community on our progress. Here are some images from the third meeting:
SUPERINTENDENT'S STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL (SSAC)
Student voice in everything we do at Marshfield Public Schools is important and valued. To further student voice throughout the district, I am happy to announce the formation of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC). The SSAC meets with the Superintendent monthly, and Assistant Superintendents and other leaders (when they are available) to advise, to provide feedback, and to present viable solutions on District initiatives and programs.
Our first three meetings were wonderful. We began to formulate a student voice survey, created community agreements for our work, got to know each other better, and looked at the role of this important team. In our third meeting, with the high school and middle school students, we talked about our cell phone policies and the current implementation of those policies at the middle and the high school. In our fourth meeting, we talked about school pride and safety.
At our fifth meeting, our younger advisory council members worked with our middle and high school members to talk about ways student voice is being heard throughout the district and to brainstorm ways we can expand voice for all.
This week's meeting involved a discussion regarding "Belonging" in our schools. Thank you to DWS Principal MacNeill, for helping to lead the discussion. Great job, students!
GREAT LEARNING HAPPENING THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT
Our Learning Walks this year will revolve around Deep Student Engagement, Task Development, and Learning Environment for Students. The District Leader established look-fors are inspired by Amy Berry and her book Reimagining Student Learning, From Disrupting to Driving. This is a multi-year focus, which will involve all stakeholders.
In a nutshell, we will focus on those elements in the classroom that move students from disrupting to driving learning, while also focusing on the development of strong tasks to engage the students within a culturally responsive climate that promotes inclusion.
These lookfors are being unwrapped at staff meetings across the district. This week we engaged in a learning walk of Eames Way Elementary School.

MHS ATHLETICS
Despite the difficult weather and field conditions our Spring Teams are underway and battling their opponents, and at times, the inclement weather.
The Girls Lacrosse Team warmed up the weather around here with 2 impressive home wins this week. The Rams opened the week with a 17 – 9 win over Pembroke and followed that up with another win yesterday over Quincy, 15 – 4. Junior Julia O’Brien continues to fill up the net for Marshfield with 5 goals just yesterday alone. Teammate, Senior Noelle Finucane has also been busy filling up the net and assisting on her teammate’s goals, collecting 3 goals and 2 more assists yesterday. Senior Gabby Reardon also scored 2 goals and 4 assists in yesterday’s game. Junior Chloe Cupples has also had a strong start to the season for Marshfield.
The Boys Lacrosse Team also had a big win over Pembroke this week as well, 17 – 4. Senior Charlie Carroll continues to be the offensive spark for the Rams while Junior Sam O’Brien continues his dominance in the faceoff circle and is a goal scoring threat as well. Junior Dylan Burhoe has had a very strong start in net for the Rams.
The Softball Team continues to swing their bats well and put up big numbers offensively. They defeated North Quincy this week, 17 – 0. Junior Sophia Blanco had the shutout for the Rams and struck out 11. She also was a key catalyst offensively, collecting 3 hits. Freshman Maddie Whittaker had 2 hits and drove in 4 runs. Junior Sarah McIntyre played well defensively behind the plate.
The Baseball Team came up a little short against North Quincy, falling 6 – 5. The Rams got great starting pitching from Senior Tor Maas, who struck out 4, walked none, through 5.1 innings on the mound. Senior Jack Doherty reached base safely in all 5 plate appearances. Junior shortstop Cole Summers had an RBI and played well in the field.
The Girls Track and Field Team fell to Duxbury to open the season but competed well. Sophomore Hannah Tiernan took home 1st place in both the Shot Put and Discus. Junior Sarah Penney won the 1 Mile and Senior Charlotte Perrault won the 2 Mile.
The Boys Track and Field Team had an impressive opening win against Duxbury, 101 – 35. Strong performances up and down the roster for Marshfield. Senior Graham Heinrich picked up right where he left off from the Winter Season capturing both 1st place in the Mile and 2 Mile competition. Senior Josh Albert finished 1st in the Discs Event and fellow Senior Nathan Looney also continued his excellent Senior Year by finishing 1st in the 100 Meter, Long Jump and High Jump.
The Girls Tennis Team fell at home to North Quincy, 4 – 1. Senior Therese McCormack and Freshman Abby Lam won their Doubles Match against N/Q. Senior Hailey Johnson lost in a nail biter in her Match losing a tiebreaker in the 3rd Set.
The Boys Tennis Team was shutout by North Quincy on the road, 5 – 0. Freshman Julian Baker played well as the 1, taking his opponent deep in every game. 1st Doubles of Junior Brendan Tierney and Sophomore Will Clark played well in a back-and-forth Doubles Match.
The Rugby Team will travel to Hingham this Friday Night for their second Match of the Year.
