Community Check-In
North Rockland Central School District - June 2
North Rockland Families:
The first week of June was short but impactful in North Rockland.
I had the pleasure of attending the District’s 2022-23 Awards Night alongside the Board of Education and Administration team last night. To say the event was exciting and humbling is truly an understatement. $400,000+ in scholarships were awarded to 236 students.
The auditorium of NRHS was not only filled with proud students and parents, but with so much of the local community. From business owners, to historic organizations, alumni and families - I was reminded of how greatly and strongly NR shows up for our children. While our senior scholarship recipients are always appreciative of what they receive, in turn, the sprawling display of donors sitting among them, inspires them to give back in their own lives.
The entire process starting from applications, sets an example and has a lasting philanthropic effect on all those who are awarded. To every donor we are so grateful for your support and contributions. You set an example and inspire our future generations to aspire to one day be sitting in your seat. Your support plays a crucial part in creating leaders who care about their communities, those who need a helping hand and making real life full circle moments of when you put good out into the world it will come back to you. All things this world needs more of.
This week I also was able to tag along on some of the District’s new partnership trips/workshops for learners of all grade levels. An integral part of our mission in NRCSD is to continue expanding our offerings and opportunities for kids to learn through play beyond the traditional classroom.
One partnership I am so thrilled to be able to provide to every elementary school learner has been the “Junior Rangers” ice hockey initiative, of which you will find an in-depth video highlighting the program below. For so many of our children this was the first time they got to lace up a pair of skates and give it a try. The whole experience has taught a monumental life lesson that when you fall down, you get back up.
As we head into the weekend, there are now three weeks left in the school year and two more Weekly Updates left before welcoming summer. We are dwindling down to the end of the school year.
While the last few days have been some of our favorites thus far, filled with important nights, BBQ’s, trips, Field Days, moving up ceremonies, recognition dinners and much more, I promise - the best is still yet to come!

Get to know our Academies! - Engineering
North Rockland’s Academy of Engineering is a two year sequence offered by the NHRS Technology Department in collaboration with the Science and Math Departments. The Academy strongly supports our district’s commitment to “College and Career Readiness''. Students in the Academy of Engineering study in the areas Science, Math and Engineering in a collaborative learning environment with a goal of real world applications.
The North Rockland High School Academy of Engineering is looking for partnering companies and organizations to provide summer and after-school employment or internship opportunities for North Rockland students. The students have excellent academic and interpersonal skills that could benefit any employer. SPRING SIGNING DAY: Congratulations to NRCSD’s staggering 24 varsity athletes who signed to play collegiate sports with their respective schools.
It was so rewarding to see each of our dedicated student-athletes, many who have been playing for #NR since childhood, put pen to paper and officially commit to continuing their athletic career by signing their National Letter of Intent.
"Use your sport, discipline you have learned on the field, the drive, the sense of pride, the heart you have in your everyday lives!" Coach Joe Casarella said as he addressed the signing seniors. “One thing that you should always remember is you’re a member of this community. Of North Rockland. Forever.” Full story and more photos.
The celebration continues at the Senior BBQ! 😀🐾🌞
The Red Raider Senior Class spent the day celebrating down at Bowline Point Park. The day was filled with games, good food and great friends. The seniors got to play life-size foosball, volleyball, spike ball and more. Others spent the day jamming out to music in the pavilion. All in all, it was another successful Senior BBQ for the graduating class of 2023 at NRHS. More photos.

Raider of the Week
The 2023 Girls Softball Section Champions are #REDANDWHITE!
North Rockland's 3-2 win over White Plains in the Section 1 Class AA softball championship on our home field at North Rockland High School Saturday, was one to remember.
NR's Ally Murphy, Olivia Leon, Hannah Leon, Tara Murphy and Addyson Bohlander each had a hit for the Red Raiders. Hannah Leon and Ava Jacobs each had an RBI. Pitcher Delaney McGovern took home Player of the game.
Red Raider of the Week
Tommy Cahill is our #REDRAIDEROFTHEWEEK! The freshman was a leader and workhorse for the County and League Champion Red Raider Golf team. "Tommy is an incredibly driven athlete who never missed an opportunity to develop his game." his Coach William Branti shared. His motto of "Hard work pays off" was clearly evident in the impressive first year on the team that he posted. Cahill had a strong finish in the County Tournament taking 4th place overall and closed out the season having made his mark with the second lowest differential on the team as well as the 5th lowest in Rockland County. In addition he was named All League and All County. He is definitely a player the competition will be keeping an eye on for years to come. The future is bright for this young Red Raider. It is for all these reasons that he is our Red Raider to watch this week. Let’s make some #REDANDWHITE noise for Tommy!
Lady Raider of the Week
Ella Call is our #LADYRAIDEROFTHEWEEK! "The senior has grown into an exemplary athlete, teammate and leader, taking over as a team captain this season." her Coach Tyler Perry shared" She goes above and beyond every single day, sets an example, makes incredible contributions and ensures everything we need is taken care of. Whether that's carrying the team’s boats or helping with the coach's boat." Call has even held her own captain's meetings with crew members to make sure all of the other athletes know and continue to carry out their responsibilities. Her teammates shared that she is always there whenever they need her and she makes every day together fun. She accomplishes all of this while pushing herself and others improve and excel. Ella performed exceptionally as a member of the girl's varsity four boat at the Rockland/Westchester cup, placing third this past Saturday and is dual athlete also playing for the North Rockland Girls Varsity Soccer team. Call is stellar on and off the field, maintaining a GPA of 4.0 and working as President of the World Language Honor Society, Treasurer of the National Honor Society and a member of both the Italian Club and the Academy of Finance. She will be attending Marist College in the fall and we will definitely miss having her on the team, but can't wait to see what she accomplishes next! It is for all these reasons that she is our Red Raider to watch this week. Let's make some #REDANDWHITE noise for Ella!
NR Alumni Headliners!
North Rockland's Corretjer star as Pace wins D-II NCAA lacrosse
Corretjer, who was named co-Journal News/lohud Rockland girls lacrosse player of the year in 2018 with then-North Rockland teammate Elizabeth Fox, who went on to play for Division I James Madison, was recruited to Pace by former coach Michael Spinner. But Molfetta replaced Spinner before the high school all-American, who's now a grad student, got to Pace.
The change never made her waiver on her choice. Corretjer, who said she considers herself lucky to have played for Molfetta and Alamprese, was recruited by multiple D-I schools but liked Pace's close location and the team atmosphere, which she described as "like family."

Raider Rescue 🐾
Kya! 🐶
Meet Kya
Kya is less than 2 years old, she’s an absolute LOVEBUG! She needs a minute to warm up to people but has lived with children and did great with another dog! She would benefit from a home that has Husky experience and definitely would love a brother to play with daily. Kya, as most huskies, do have a higher prey drive, so she would not do well with cats or any type of livestock or small critters. She’s sweet, fun, loving and loves long walks. If you are interested in adopting Kya, please go to www.hitor.org to fill out an adoption application.
Mary Ellen 😻
Meet Mary Ellen!
Mary Ellen is as cute as can be! She is about 14 years old, so she definitely is an old soul. If you’re looking for a cuddle bug that follows you everywhere, Mary Ellen is your girl! She loves to hang around your neck and get all the love and scratches you could possibly give her! She is a cat that will be your best friend for life. If you are interested in adopting her, please go to www.hitor.org to fill out an application.
