Welcome Back!
We hope you all had a wonderful and restful Spring Break! We’re so excited to be back and ready for more learning, discovery, and fun as we head into the final stretch of the school year.
Before break, we had an incredible time celebrating National Lutheran Schools Week! Centered around Hebrews 12:1–2, each day invited us to grow in faith, perseverance, and joy as we learned to keep our eyes on Jesus.
Monday’s obstacle course helped us reflect on “setting aside hindrances,” and on Tuesday, we searched the school for hidden pictures of Jesus, a fun reminder that He is always with us. During our DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) moments, students enjoyed a mix of books, some about Jesus’ love and others full of imagination, adventure, and curiosity.
On Wednesday, we came together to create a school wide prayer blanket, lifting up heartfelt prayers, especially for our brave friend Nathan, who is facing health challenges. It was a beautiful expression of love and care from our school community.
Thursday’s all-school picnic brought so much joy! It was great seeing some of our families there, enjoying food, fellowship, and fun together in the gym. We ended the week with Friday’s endurance challenge, where students showed incredible perseverance and teamwork. The Bobcat Bonanza Raffle Drawing added some extra excitement to wrap things up!
And of course, we can’t forget our leprechaun adventures! He kept us on our toes with his silly tricks, and the kids had a blast designing clever traps and checking for surprises each morning.
It was a week full of faith, friendship, laughter, and learning, and we’re so thankful to have shared these special moments with your children, and with you!
Coming Up This Week in Pre-K!
This week in our classroom, we’re buzzing with excitement as we begin our Insects unit! We’ll be learning all about bugs—their body parts, where they live, how they move, and what makes an insect an insect. Through hands-on exploration and engaging stories, students will become little entomologists, observing insects up close and learning to respect the tiny creatures in our world.
Our focus letter is Z, and we’ll practice recognizing, writing, and making the /z/ sound in words—just like in buzz! In math, we’ll continue working with teen numbers while also reviewing ordinal numbers by exploring insect-themed activities (like lining up bugs first, second, and third!).
In literacy, we will strengthen our phonemic awareness by stretching out and identifying the beginning, middle, and ending sounds in words—many of which will come from our bug theme. We'll enjoy stories and poems about creepy crawlers, and even create our own insect-inspired writing pieces.
In science, we’ll connect our learning to nature by studying the characteristics of insects. We’ll explore their life cycles, especially focusing on caterpillars and butterflies, and go on mini bug hunts to observe real-life insects in their habitats.
It’s going to be another week full of inquiry, discovery, and joy as we dig into the wonderful world of bugs!
Our Dramatic Play Center is Turning into a Campsite!
We are thrilled to announce that our dramatic play center is transforming into a campground! In this fun and imaginative setting, students will build essential math, literacy, science, and social skills—all through play.
Campers can pretend to go camping with their family. They’ll pack their bags, set up a tent, build a fire, cook meals, roast marshmallows, eat s’mores, sing songs around the campfire, and even “sleep” under the stars!
While it may look like play, there's a lot of learning happening!
Academic Skills in Action:
Math: Counting and sorting items when packing, measuring and graphing fish while “fishing.”
Literacy: Reading labels, writing nature journals after hikes, and sequencing steps to make s’mores.
Science: Exploring nature, observing the weather, and learning about animals and habitats.
Oral Language: Sharing ideas, expressing needs, and engaging in meaningful conversations with peers.
Social-Emotional Learning Through Play: During pretend camping, students will also develop important social and emotional skills, including:
Self-regulation
Turn-taking and sharing
Waiting patiently
Controlling impulses
Expressing feelings appropriately
Problem-solving with peers
To support your child’s play and learning, consider setting up a mini camping experience at home! Whether it’s in your living room, backyard, or at a real campsite, your child can become a real camper and enjoy the magic of camping firsthand.
Thank you for encouraging your child’s creativity and growth through play. We can’t wait to see what adventures unfold at Camp Kindergarten!

Last Week’s Highlights
Obstacle Course Fun!
The obstacle course during National Lutheran Schools Week was so much fun! The students had a blast jumping, crawling, balancing, and weaving their way through the course as they worked to “set aside hindrances” and stay focused. It was a great mix of movement, teamwork, and faith in action—with plenty of laughter along the way!
Leprechaun Mischief!
That sneaky leprechaun paid a visit to our classroom, and made quite the mess! We found tiny green footprints everywhere, and the kids were thrilled to discover what mischief he caused each day. From flipped chairs to glitter trails, he kept us guessing!
The highlight of the week was setting leprechaun traps. Each day, the traps got more creative and clever as students used their imaginations and teamwork to try and catch him. While he managed to escape every time, the fun and laughter he left behind made it all worth it!
Golden Math Adventures!
As part of our St. Patrick’s Day fun, we had a magical math experience with hidden gold coins scattered all around the classroom! Students eagerly searched for the coins, and once they were all found, the real learning began.
Each child used ten frames to count their coins, practicing one-to-one correspondence and strengthening their understanding of how numbers are represented. After counting, students wrote their totals on whiteboards, giving them a chance to work on number recognition and number formation. Together, we compared the amounts, discussing who had the most and who had the least, which helped build early skills in comparing quantities. Finally, students worked cooperatively to put their numbers in numerical order, reinforcing number sequencing, math vocabulary, and teamwork.
To wrap up the experience, students had the chance to “shop” at our classroom store using their gold coins! This brought in even more fun and learning as they practiced basic counting, simple decision-making, and the idea of trading and value. It was a joyful, hands-on activity that combined math, play, and imagination in the most meaningful way!
Tornado in a Bottle!
In science, we explored extreme weather by making our very own tornado in a bottle! Using two clear soda bottles, water, and a little swirl of motion, we watched as a spinning funnel formed, just like a real tornado. The students were amazed to see how the water moved in a spiral and created a vortex right before their eyes! Through this hands-on experiment, we learned that tornadoes form when warm and cool air meet and begin to rotate. We also talked about weather patterns, natural forces, and used observation skills to describe what we saw. It was a simple yet powerful way to bring science to life and spark curiosity about the world around us!
